Chapter 30

Mu Xin’s role was that of the Third Young Lady.

Although she lived separately from the Third Young Master, they were still in the same courtyard. Consequently, Mu Xin lived very close to the Player acting as the Third Young Master.

Even though Mu Xin’s teammates were Zheng Jueming and Lin Junruo, she clearly wasn’t satisfied with that alone. Especially since she had already begun to suspect Zheng Jueming, she planned to use her proximity to reach out to the others.

So, when the lunch break ended and it was time to return to the main hall for the next round of evidence collection, she decided to wait for the Third Young Master’s Player.

But he never showed.

Seeing that there was no movement from him, Mu Xin took the initiative to go to his room. After knocking and receiving no response, she pushed the door open, only to find the Third Young Master’s Player lying dead on the floor.

It was the Third Young Master, and it was the Player.

In the Script, the Third Young Master was dead. At that same moment, the Player had been erased by the world, becoming the second Player to die after the Second Miss.

Everyone was supposed to meet in the main hall, but because of this sudden accident, they all ended up gathering in the Third Young Master’s room instead.

The Player’s corpse still lay on the floor.

“What’s the general situation?” Xia Zeqin asked, his brow furrowed in a rare display of concern.

Qin Nan didn’t know what Xia Zeqin’s situation had been like before, but when he first arrived in the Realm of Death, Xia Zeqin had been holding a girl in his arms with four lackeys trailing behind him. Now, his female companion had been erased, and of the four lackeys, only one remained.

Originally, it had been six against one between Xia Zeqin and Jian Fan. However, Xia Zeqin had lost four teammates across two worlds in quick succession, while Jian Fan had gained Qin Nan. Now, the numbers were tied at two against two.

Not only that, if Mu Xin ended up joining them, they would be a group of three. As for Xia Zeqin… Qin Nan scanned the remaining Players. Aside from Xu Tian, whom Xia Zeqin might be able to win over, the others were either out of his reach or not worth the effort.

Tsk. Such a massive advantage, completely overturned in just two worlds?

Xia Zeqin was likely going through a streak of bad luck lately. No wonder he could maintain a relaxed posture when he lost his first teammate, yet was now visibly frowning.

Mu Xin had dropped her earlier serious demeanor.

Now that there were more people around, she reverted to her previous persona. Since she was the one who had discovered the Player’s body, she appeared utterly terrified, her words stumbling: “I… I don’t know. I’ve told you everything I can. That’s just how it was. He was already like this when I arrived.” By the end, Mu Xin’s voice was trembling with a sob.

Qin Nan stole a glance. Great, her eyes were red and brimming with tears. Those tears really did come on command.

He felt a slight urge to give Mu Xin a thumbs-up.

They were all such talents; it was a waste for her not to be an actor. She was probably a performing arts major in reality, wasn’t she?

Qin Weiyi scanned the surroundings and said, “Everyone is busy looking for clues. Except for the killer, I doubt anyone would have the spare mind to focus on other Players right now.”

It was precisely because of this that they had given the killer the perfect window of opportunity to strike.

“Then let’s exchange information,” Jian Fan suddenly spoke up.

Qin Weiyi turned to look at him. After a moment of thought, he nodded. “That’s a good idea.”

If they pieced together all the clues they had obtained, it would certainly be beneficial for deducing the killer’s identity. As for the clues the killer held, they would likely be related to them or might even expose them as the culprit. Thus, it would all come down to seeing whose information was lacking.

However, they didn’t have much time.

Due to the death of the Third Young Master’s Player, the game had granted them some extra time to observe the situation in his room, but the time for discussion was not meant to last forever.
The third round of evidence collection was about to begin.

The Steward reappeared, signaling the start.

Regarding the death of the Third Young Master, the Steward expressed shock before revealing some areas they could access during this search. “This old servant has already checked; the key in the Second Master’s possession is indeed the key to the family Vault. Young masters and young ladies, do you need to confirm the situation at the Vault?”

They could use that key to inspect the Vault now.

“How should we group up this time?” Zheng Jueming asked proactively.

As he spoke, Mu Xin’s gaze swept over him briefly. She still maintained that fearful expression, but there seemed to be something else hidden within it.

There were ten Players remaining.

“Three, three, and four. Let’s split into three groups,” Qin Nan suggested.

No one objected, but who would be in which group remained a significant issue.

“We’ll stick to the usual. Mu Xin, what do you think?” Qin Nan proactively asked for Mu Xin’s opinion.

Mu Xin cautiously glanced at everyone’s reactions before giving a small nod.

With Qin Nan’s team of three formed again, the remaining seven were divided into two teams. Among this group, Qin Weiyi and Xia Zeqin were clearly the most capable, so they each led a team. This time, Qin Weiyi took Lu Jing with him.

Qin Weiyi, Lu Jing, Lin Junruo, and Zheng Jueming formed one team, while Xia Zeqin, Xu Tian, and his sole remaining lackey formed the other.

Once the three teams were formed, they divided the inspection tasks.

“I want to go back to Father’s courtyard and take another look,” Qin Nan spoke up. “Jian Fan and I were the ones who examined Master’s body. We want to see if anything was missed. Our group of three will also handle the surrounding area.”

Qin Weiyi didn’t mind. “Fine.”

Xia Zeqin glanced at Qin Nan and frowned slightly, but he didn’t voice any opposition.

Qin Weiyi proactively chose to investigate the Vault. Since the Player acting as the Second Master-who held the Vault key-was in Xia Zeqin’s team, it was inappropriate for Xia Zeqin’s team to be the ones to check the Vault. Xia Zeqin had no objections; he stayed behind to take responsibility for inspecting the Third Young Master’s crime scene.

After the tasks were assigned, Qin Nan immediately led Jian Fan and Mu Xin straight toward the deceased’s courtyard.

However, Qin Nan didn’t waste a single second on the way there.

“Mu Xin, do you have any information you can share?” Qin Nan asked.

Mu Xin didn’t answer immediately, but she didn’t flatly refuse either.

“I’ve obtained some clues that you’ll see soon enough, but I hope we can see a bit of sincerity from your side as well,” Qin Nan said. Although they had been the ones to extend the olive branch to Mu Xin, if she was still unwilling to show even a hint of sincerity, they might choose to look for someone else as a teammate.

Mu Xin stopped in her tracks, her eyes darting between Qin Nan and Jian Fan several times.

This time, she no longer put on a fearful expression.

“I am indeed pregnant, and the child is indeed the Third Young Master’s,” Mu Xin said.

Judging solely from the information they had gathered earlier, quite a few people likely suspected there was something strange about the child in the Third Young Lady’s womb. After some thought, Mu Xin provided this relatively neutral piece of information.

Qin Nan let out a short laugh. “I not only know the child is the Third Young Master’s, but I also know that the falling out between the Third Young Master and the Third Young Lady was just an act.”

Mu Xin was somewhat surprised, but she quickly regained her composure. After thinking it over, she offered a new piece of information: “Then, what if I told you the Accountant and I have an unspeakable relationship?”

Qin Nan: “???”

Were they back to a melodramatic family soap opera again?
