Chapter 28
Chapter 28
They were originally on great terms, but after a sudden argument, they stopped sharing a room. Then the Third Young Lady suddenly became pregnant and wanted to secretly induce a miscarriage. As Qin Nan witnessed all of this, his mind kept drifting toward melodramatic tropes. He had initially thought their relationship had collapsed because the Third Young Lady had cuckolded the Third Young Master-perhaps even with someone else in the family.
But looking at everything now, it was more likely that the Third Young Master and his wife had discovered the truth. Since they were powerless against the deceased, they had deliberately feigned a strained relationship while likely remaining in contact privately. Once they realized she was pregnant, they had intended to get rid of the child. However, judging by the way things had played out, the medicine was still there, meaning they probably couldn’t bring themselves to go through with it.
That gave the two of them a massive motive for murder, one far more pressing than mere money.
Mu Xin wasn’t the killer. She did have a motive, and if she hadn’t chosen to stay in her own courtyard on the first night, she really might have become the culprit. As it stood, the Third Young Master was now a prime suspect.
Based on his deductions, the Third Young Master must have known the deceased’s secret. When he killed the man, he had deliberately arranged the body into that Taiji Diagram, likely as a way to spite the deceased.
Regardless of the specific reason, anyone who arranged that Taiji Diagram definitely knew the secret the deceased was hiding. Among their group, the person most likely to know-aside from himself-was the Third Young Master.
However, Qin Nan frowned again.
What did the castration have to do with it? If the man was already dead, why show such loathing for his anatomy? Furthermore, Qin Nan still felt that such an act was more likely to be committed by a woman. As it stood, the most suspicious person was Lin Junruo.
But Lin Junruo was the Eldest Miss. Assuming she didn’t know these secrets, why would a pampered Eldest Miss turn against her own father? And why would she go so far as to snip off her father’s manhood?
Qin Nan found it somewhat baffling.
While he was lost in thought, the deceased finished his monologue and left the room.
After he departed, the Second Young Master was left drenched in cold sweat. It took a long time before he finally crawled up from the floor. He cast a glance at the person in the coffin before quickly running toward the secret passage.
Because the deceased was still in the house, the Second Young Master couldn’t leave yet.
It wasn’t until the next morning, when the deceased went out to discuss business, that the Second Young Master took the opportunity to emerge from the secret passage. He then crept out of the deceased’s courtyard and hurried back to his own quarters.
The time reversal didn’t end there, but the subsequent events weren’t shown scene by scene. Instead, they were presented to Qin Nan through text.
Following this incident, the Second Young Master fell ill and remained bedridden for an entire month.
Once he recovered a month later, he once again asked the Nephew Young Master to deliver a letter. He completely severed any possibility of being with his beloved. He couldn’t reveal these secrets for fear of harming others, so he could only pretend to be a scoundrel who had toyed with her affections and abandoned her.
The Nephew Young Master seemed to be close friends with the girl, and as a result of this incident, he cut off all ties with the Second Young Master.
The Second Young Master couldn’t afford to dwell on his grief. He knew that even without his beloved, the deceased would eventually force him to marry. Therefore, he began searching for folk remedies and eventually succeeded in making himself infertile.
Reading this, Qin Nan had to admit that the Second Young Master was a ruthless man.
After visiting several Doctors and confirming the conclusion that he was unable to father children, the Second Young Master went to find the deceased.
After seeking out numerous Doctors and learning that there was no cure, the deceased had completely given up on the Second Young Master.
This was the real reason why the Second Young Master had never married and why the deceased simply didn’t care. It wasn’t that they had a poor relationship; it was that the deceased had no interest in someone who could not produce an heir.
What a massive secret.
Qin Nan was amazed.
At this point, the time reversal finally came to an end.
Qin Nan returned to the normal timeline. He sat on his stool in a daze; the amount of information was so overwhelming that he needed some time to process it all.
However, once he regained his composure, Qin Nan felt that this risk had been worth it. He had gathered a significant amount of intel.
Based on his previous analysis with Jian Fan, combined with this new information, it was now crystal clear which of the two-the Accountant or the Third Young Master-was more likely to be the killer.
The Third Young Master.
Qin Nan exhaled softly. He felt that this round was as good as won.
He wondered what clues Jian Fan might have found on his end.
Jian Fan had also entered a time reversal, but this time it was determined by individual circumstances, and the point they returned to was not the same.
Jian Fan had returned to one year ago.
Like Qin Nan, he was merely an observer this time.
He was currently inside a room. The Faceless Person corresponding to his identity in the Script was lying on the bed, seemingly asleep.
After examining the surroundings, Jian Fan immediately confirmed that this room was not located within the deceased’s residence.
A sudden knock sounded at the door.
The person on the bed quickly got up and opened it.
Outside stood a man who looked like a shop hand.
The man held a box in his hands. Seeing the door open, he immediately handed it over. “Sir, someone just came by and told me to give this to you.”
The Faceless Person took it and asked, “Who was it?”
“How should I know? But he was dressed like a Taoist priest,” the hand replied before adding, “I have other things to attend to, so I won’t disturb you further, sir.”
The Faceless Person watched the man leave, then looked down at the box in his hands, closed the door, and returned to the room.
He placed the box on the table and, after a moment of thought, opened it.
Jian Fan saw the contents of the box: it was a dagger. He raised an eyebrow slightly. Was this the origin of the Toy Dagger? This Toy Dagger came from a Taoist priest.
This development was completely unexpected.
The Faceless Person didn’t seem surprised; in fact, it seemed he had known all along that this wasn’t a real dagger.
He reached out and plunged the dagger into his own palm.
As the blade touched his palm, it quickly retracted. However, unlike when Jian Fan had used it before, a bright red substance that looked like blood flowed out of the dagger, making the effect look incredibly realistic.
After testing it, the Faceless Person put the dagger away and went to the side to wash his hands.
Up to this point, Jian Fan had not encountered a moment where he needed to make a choice.
The scene shifted. Jian Fan saw the Faceless Person shoulder a medical kit and become a local Doctor. Later, he was invited into the deceased’s home and became the resident Doctor for the family.
Then, one day, the Faceless Person happened to cross paths with the Eldest Miss at the house.
Jian Fan raised an eyebrow. After all that buildup, they were finally getting to the main event.
