Chapter 2

I’m not joking-Chi Ni was busier than the president every day.

In the mornings, he sold egg-filled pancakes; during the day, he worked part-time jobs; and at night, he stayed up late coding for his startup.

He was voted the poorest campus heartthrob at A University.

Supposedly, when he found out he’d been voted the campus heartthrob, Chi Ni didn’t even bat an eye.

He only asked one question: “Can ‘campus heartthrob’ be exchanged for cash?”

Everyone said he was crazy for money.

This directly led to me being able to hire Chi Ni as an art model for a mere two hundred yuan.

The moment he stepped into the classroom and saw me, his footsteps faltered.

I didn’t give him a chance to back out.

With a loud thud, I slammed the door shut.

“Classmate Chi, you’ve taken my money. Are you planning to run?”

He seemed to finally snap out of it, pulling his gaze away from my face.

He sat down on the chair of his own accord, knees together, hands resting stiffly on his thighs.

His lips were pressed into a tight line. “We can start.”

I looked at him with a beaming smile.

“Take off your clothes.”

“What?”

He looked up slightly.

He looked very much like a startled, fierce dog.

I said as if it were the most natural thing in the world, “You’re an art model, of course you have to take off your clothes!”

“Don’t you have any professional ethics?”

We remained at a stalemate for a long time.

Chi Ni closed his eyes and surrendered.

He raised his hand and slowly undid the first button of his shirt, revealing a sexy Adam’s apple.

Then came his beautiful collarbones.

Further down…

“Ooh,” I praised sincerely. “It looks really good!”

“Classmate Chi, you’re pink.”

The nineteen-year-old Chi Ni didn’t have the unflappable composure he would possess ten years later.

With just a few teasing words, even his fair skin was flushed with a thin layer of pink.

His well-defined hands pressed against his waistband, as if he were restraining himself to the limit.

“Shut up,” he snapped, his voice tight with embarrassment.

With the air conditioning set high, sweat meandered down his abs, disappearing below his beautiful V-line.

I kindly pinched a tissue to wipe the sweat for him.

Chi Ni and his “little brother” both stood at attention.

“How polite!” I commented.

Following my gaze, Chi Ni’s entire body went rigid, and his expression turned incredibly ugly.

Reflexively, he grabbed his backpack to block my view.

Veins bulged on the back of his hand, full of tension.

In my previous life, it was this same hand that would gently pat my back on countless nights to chase away my nightmares.

Chi Ni had repeatedly emphasized that he wasn’t a good person and was only using his kindness to demand a reward.

But there was no one better in this world than him.

A man who loved money so much had given his entire fortune of hundreds of millions to me without reservation.

What a fool.

The nineteen-year-old Chi Ni was not gentle.

“Are you done drawing? I’m leaving.”

His face was set, his tone very blunt.

I knew very well that this was just a facade of bravado.

I stood on my tiptoes and gave him a kiss on the corner of his mouth.

“Good boy. That’s all for today!”

The fierce expression on his face could no longer be maintained. He covered the cheek I had kissed and took a step back.

“What are you doing!”

Incredulity flickered in his dark eyes.

He looked like a girl from a respectable family being forced by a bully.

I blinked, looking innocent.

“It’s your reward! Don’t you like it?”

“What do you take me for?”

Chi Ni gripped his backpack straps tightly, his messy bangs shadowing the emotions in his eyes.

“Cheng Zhiyi.”

His voice was slightly raspy as he enunciated every word:

“I am not that kind of loose person.”

He was so angry his face was glowing red.

He walked away at lightning speed, as if a demon were chasing him.

Not long after, I received a notification on my phone that Chi Ni had returned the two hundred yuan.

He was determined to draw a clear line between us.

I deliberately turned the tables on him.

[Chi Ni, that was my first kiss. Two hundred isn’t enough.]

[It was my first kiss too.]

As soon as the message was sent, he frantically retracted it.

The chat box kept showing “typing…”

By the time I finished my shower and came back,

In those twenty minutes, my phone was buzzing incessantly with messages from Chi Ni.

He had probably finally calmed down. Just like in the studio, his tone was stiff:

[Then what do you want?]

Five minutes later.

[Notification: Your new friend Chi Ni has transferred 3,527.24 yuan to your account.]

Chi Ni:

[This is all I have on hand.]

[The rest is in a wealth management fund. I’ll withdraw it tomorrow.]

A little while later.

[Cheng Zhiyi, I’m not angry with you.]

[That kind of thing can only be done between a boyfriend and girlfriend. You already have a fiancé.]

I accepted the money and sent him a voice note.

[Classmate Chi, I’ll act like this never happened. It won’t affect your purity.]

That one sentence broke his momentum.

After another while, Chi Ni sent two dry words.

[Okay.]

I lay on the bed, imagining what kind of expression Chi Ni would have right now.

Suddenly, I saw a message from Xu Jing.

I was married to Chi Ni for three years.

It wasn’t until after his death that I discovered his morbid, obsessive longing for me through his diary.
