Chapter 6
Jinzhu flicked her sleeves and stormed off.
Regret gnawed at my heart, and I didn’t even want to bother questioning Cheng Su anymore.
I hurriedly left my seat, preparing to return to the palace, but Cheng Su blocked my path.
“Your Highness!”
“How did Your Highness know that Su would develop a rash from eating fish cakes? Such private matters are known only to those closest to me.”
I felt a slight sense of suffocation. “…”
How did I know?
In my dreams, I had lived with him for three years, sharing every intimacy a husband and wife could.
I kept my face expressionless. “This Princess merely guessed…”
Cheng Su smiled. “Your Highness’s guess was quite accurate.”
I was vexed and embarrassed internally, but my outward composure remained unshaken. “This Princess is leaving. Lord Cheng, please step aside.”
Cheng Su’s eyes darkened slightly. “Wait a moment, Your Highness. There is still one thing Su does not understand. Why have you been telling everyone that Su is short-lived? Is the word ‘short-lived’ written on my face?”
“Or… is it that Your Highness does not want Su to have any involvement with others, so you said it on purpose?”
“If that is the case, rest assured, Su feels the same way toward Your Highness. I do not want Your Highness to have any involvement with anyone else either.”
As he spoke, he slowly leaned in toward my ear. The faint scent of green grass wafted over me, making my cheeks feel as though they were on fire.
He was truly too bold!
I took a step back and said sternly, “Cheng Su, a man should devote himself to the country and gallop across the world. If you are preoccupied with love and romance, how can you cultivate yourself, regulate your family, govern the state, and bring peace to the world?”
Cheng Su’s smile faded, and he looked at me with deep, searching eyes.
“Your Highness, do you think I am only obsessed with love, and that is why you glare at me?”
“If I am to regulate a family, I must first have a home. If you do not give one to me, how can I have it?”
“Only when a person has a weakness will they strive, venture out, and fight.”
“You think love leads people astray, but how do you know it is not my life’s pursuit, my lifelong faith?”
His words were decisive, carrying the killing intent of a general on a battlefield.
His tone was sincere; he truly believed what he said.
I was deeply shaken.
Cheng Su was truly a good man-a very good man!
Unfortunately, he was someone I could not afford to have…
A sense of pity rose in my heart. For a moment, I didn’t know what to say, so I could only hurry past him.
He reached out and grabbed my wrist. His grip was firm and strong yet measured, as if he were afraid of hurting me.
I felt a slight sense of awkwardness, wondering how to phrase my rejection.
Then, I heard a cold voice. “Lord Cheng, you are overstepping. Let go of Her Highness.”
It was Liu Xu.
He walked slowly out of the bamboo grove. His usually elegant face was covered in frost, and his gentle eyes looked at Cheng Su with displeasure.
Cheng Su gave a light chuckle, ignoring Liu Xu entirely.
However, he still let go of me reluctantly, pulling a booklet from his robes and handing it over. “For you.”
“I don’t want it,” I said, my face flushed red.
Why did he give me something every time he saw me?
I was a princess; my Father Emperor possessed everything within the four seas.
What could I possibly want that I couldn’t get?
Cheng Su turned serious, opening the booklet and waving it in front of me. “Do you really not want it? You won’t regret it?”
I caught a glimpse of the names in the booklet, and my heart nearly stopped.
“Give it to me, I want it.”
Ignoring the need to avoid suspicion, I reached out and grabbed his wrist, taking the booklet from his hand. After just one glance, my heart pounded wildly. I quickly tucked it into my robes for safekeeping.
Cheng Su laughed heartily. Before I could react, he reached out and affectionately flicked my nose.
“Whatever you want, I can find it for you. Instead of looking for some Lord Liu, you might as well try coming to me.”
I: “…”
What kind of scandalous talk was this?
And why was he being so touchy-feely?
I took a step back and gritted my teeth. “Lord Cheng, please conduct yourself with dignity. If you are this reckless again, This Princess will show no mercy.”
Cheng Su cooperated with equal seriousness. “Su shall obey the Phoenix Decree.”
I: “…”
I stomped my foot in annoyance and flicked my sleeves to leave. Behind me, I heard the voices of Cheng Su and Liu Xu.
Liu Xu said, “Lord Cheng, you are being far too insolent.”
Cheng Su sneered. “Lord Liu, if I am insolent, Her Highness will punish me. Why are you jumping in?”
“You are taking advantage of Her Highness’s kind heart.”
“That’s right, I am taking advantage of her. What can you do about it?”
My face burned, and I walked even faster.
