Chapter 10

Officer Liu didn’t answer her question. His eyes narrowed again. “You’re just an intern, so you don’t really understand. It’s just a kid looking for some novelty.”

The young woman continued to press him. “Such an obvious problem, and you don’t feel it?”

“Is there any need to open a case for something like this? Are we going to wrongly accuse someone like we did with Zhou Yanqing last time?”

But I hadn’t mentioned Zhou Yanqing’s name to him.

Before I could speak, the young woman picked up her phone, dialed a number, and said to the person on the other end, “Dad, I’m at the police station.”

“There’s a case. Tell my brother to come handle it.”

She ignored Officer Liu after she finished speaking. Taking my phone, she looked through it repeatedly, sitting to the side to compare photo after photo.

As she compared them, she asked Qi An questions.

“Do you know her?”

“I don’t know her.”

Standing to the side, Officer Liu kept saying, “It’s useless. It’ll all come to nothing in the end.”

I finally found an opportunity to speak. “Excuse me, I never mentioned the name Zhou Yanqing.”

The young woman turned to look at him.

“Officer Liu.”

Her tone turned cold, but the man wasn’t the least bit afraid.

It was late at night, and we were the only ones in the station.

He simply stood up and said, “It’s normal for an intern like you not to understand. Go back and get some rest.”

After saying that, he turned his head to look at me, the wrinkles on his forehead bunching together.

“You should leave too. Stop being so paranoid every single day.”

I pulled Qi An behind me. “I’m not leaving.”

My son had gone through this twice in a row, yet my concern as a mother was being dismissed as paranoia.

“Even if the person on the other side is a minor, I’m going to see them today.”

“On what grounds are you refusing to open a case? I want to report you.”

“There’s clearly a problem, so why aren’t you doing anything?”

…

The female officer shielded me. She raised her voice and asked once more, “How exactly do you know Zhou Yanqing?”

Officer Liu shouted back, his voice booming with insubordination, “I have no obligation to answer that!”

“What about me? Is my authority enough?”

The abrupt voice cut through the silence like a sharp sword.

The young woman ran over and stood before the newcomer. “Deputy Captain.”

The man was in civilian clothes, clearly having just come from home, but even in casual wear, he stood straight as a ramrod, radiating an aura of integrity.

I didn’t recognize him, but Officer Liu suddenly rushed to greet him.

“Xiao Zhou is your sister? Why didn’t you say so sooner?”

He ignored Officer Liu.

He simply stood in front of me and said, “Don’t worry. A case will be formally opened for this matter. We will never tolerate any criminal behavior.”

After he finished speaking, he turned to ask Officer Liu, “How do you know Zhou Yanqing?”

Officer Liu stammered, refusing to give a straight answer, only saying, “Yanqing is a good kid.”

The man directly raised his leg and delivered a steady kick to the back of the officer’s knee.

Officer Liu hit the floor with a heavy thud, forced onto his knees.

The man then reached out and took the phone from my hand. “The First Detachment is officially taking over this case.”

My son was being pestered by another boy.

The teacher called and asked me to come to the school.

When I arrived, he shouted at me for the first time. “Mom, what’s wrong...
