Chapter 45
My mom arrived at the hospital room just as the last crescent moon was hanging in the sky.
The doctor had just delivered the critical condition notice.
Many people had come and gone in the ward over the past two days.
My mom seemed to be in a hurry; she was only wearing a coat, slippers on her feet, and her hair was a bit messy.
The moment she saw me, she seemed almost unable to recognize me.
It was only when she got closer, saw me clearly, that she finally confirmed-the person lying in the hospital bed, covered in tubes and wounds, was me.
She looked at me, her eyes filling with tears: “Why did you jump? Do you know how high that building is? How could you dare to jump?
“Why didn’t you tell me you were sick? Why didn’t you tell me when something happened? Am I not your mother? Is there anything you can’t tell your mom?”
I looked at her with difficulty, feeling a little dazed.
I remembered the first time I was diagnosed with cancer. My mom’s tone wasn’t good, but she still took out all her money to pay for my treatment.
She said, “If the sky falls, your mom will hold it up. You two don’t need to worry.”
Across all those years, my mom’s figure gradually overlapped with how she used to be.
My gaze fell on her face. After a long while, I whispered, “Mom, you’ve gotten so old.”
To hear me clearly, my mom leaned in very close.
When she understood, she cried and laughed at the same time.
“How could you be so foolish? How could you do something so silly? You never listen to me.”
I gave her a faint smile and said, “Mom, I saw my brother coming to get me.”
It didn’t seem to hurt so much anymore.
It was only then that I realized I really was about to die.
Do people see their life flash before their eyes when they die?
Will I see my brother?
My mom stared at me, her expression frozen, even her tears hanging on her face, not quite falling.
“Mom was wrong! I’m sorry! Please forgive me!” My mom suddenly seemed to realize, her strength drained, collapsing all at once. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, don’t blame mom. Mom will take you to get treatment. You always listened to mom when you were little.”
She rambled incoherently, her hand shaking as she tried to press the emergency button.
So she didn’t hear me say, “Mom, I miss my brother so much.”
Or maybe that was just my imagination; I didn’t really have the strength to speak anymore.
So I gently closed my eyes.
My mom gripped my hand at the bedside, suddenly shouting into the air, “Jiang Qi! Jiang Qi, don’t take her away, she’s still young, she hasn’t grown up yet!”
Something dripped onto my hand and quickly spread.
In a haze, I seemed to hear a phone hitting the floor, Mr. He anxiously calling my name, and the urgent voices of medical staff.
Then those sounds grew fainter and fainter.
It felt like my soul was floating up.
Then, in the darkness, I saw a cluster of white light.
I drifted toward it, and saw my brother standing there, squinting and smiling at me.

Our Final Spring
The day I found out I had cancer.
He Wei frowned and said coldly to me, “Do you think anyone would be sad if you died? No one would feel bad about it.”
I said,...
