Chapter 43
The call ended.
I looked up at the sky, a vast expanse of gray. Everything around me became quiet and empty, and the sound of my heartbeat grew faint.
I wanted to say something. But I was truly exhausted.
All I wanted was a good sleep.
So I closed my eyes and whispered, “Brother, don’t leave me.”
Then I fell backward.
I didn’t die.
I don’t know if it was luck, but just as I fell, some students skipping class happened to be there. Frightened, they immediately called the police.
So I was saved.
I don’t know how many days I was unconscious.
When I woke up, I happened to hear Mrs. He on the phone with her back to me.
Her tone was calm and steady: “Come back for a bit. Your sister is in the hospital.”
“Not He Yu.” Mrs. He paused before continuing, “It’s Jiang Yu. She jumped off a building. The doctor said that although she was resuscitated for now, her organs are damaged. She only has a few days left.”
Hearing this, I felt at ease and closed my eyes again.
Even though my whole body ached, soon I would be free.
In the darkness, I sensed that after Mrs. He hung up, she didn’t leave right away.
She stood by the bedside for a long time and softly called, “Jiang Yu.”
I didn’t open my eyes.
I was so tired, I didn’t want to deal with any of them anymore.
Half-asleep, I heard Mr. He’s voice.
He rambled on beside my ear for a long time.
It was a bit noisy.
Later, maybe he got tired too.
It quieted down for a while.
“The nurse said she saw you open your eyes. Xiao Yu, are you angry with Dad?”
I didn’t want to listen to him.
“Xiao Yu, say something to Dad, will you? Dad was wrong. Dad shouldn’t have treated you that way.”
So noisy.

Our Final Spring
The day I found out I had cancer.
He Wei frowned and said coldly to me, “Do you think anyone would be sad if you died? No one would feel bad about it.”
I said,...
