Chapter 35
He Yu once attempted suicide.
It happened the night I tried to overturn my brother’s conviction, but lost the case.
My brother was her brother, too.
I heard that after my brother died, she developed severe depression.
Her guilt was pardoned by the law, but her soul was burdened with even greater sin.
So that night, she swallowed sleeping pills.
She didn’t die – she was rescued in time.
That was the first time He Wei appeared downstairs at my place after I left the He Family.
He asked me, “Can you forgive her?”
I found his question ridiculous.
And I realized just how frighteningly foolish He Wei really was.
He thought that by putting aside his pride and dignity, and saying a few pleading words, he had already made a tremendous sacrifice.
He believed the whole world should revolve around him, and that as soon as he bowed his head, others should be grateful and naturally give way.
So I said to him, “Sure.”
But at He Yu’s hospital bed, I watched her scream in pain with cold indifference, and asked with feigned innocence, “Yeah, why wasn’t it you who died?”
I still remember the shock on all their faces after I said that.
He Wei rushed over and demanded, “Do you even know what you’re saying? She almost died just now!”
I met his gaze fearlessly, then spoke cruelly, “She killed her own brother. Shouldn’t she die?”
That was probably the only time He Wei ever tried to hit me.
But his slap never landed on my face.
Fu Ziyi, standing next to me, raised his hand and blocked it.
He Wei’s hand landed on the back of Fu Ziyi’s hand with a crisp sound.
I heard Fu Ziyi’s angry voice: “Are you fucking crazy?”
But He Wei still glared at me with hatred and said, “Get out. I don’t want to see you again.”
I laughed indifferently and agreed, “Whatever. You’d better keep your word. I don’t want to see any of you pathetic people again, either.”
He Wei tried to compose himself and denied it, “I only said that in the heat of the moment.”
“Really?” I stared at him, utterly serious. “But I meant every word.”

Our Final Spring
The day I found out I had cancer.
He Wei frowned and said coldly to me, “Do you think anyone would be sad if you died? No one would feel bad about it.”
I said,...
