Chapter 33
When I turned around, I could no longer hold back my tears.
Fate is so cruel; there is never a perfect solution. It always forces you to make sacrifices.
And I could only give up the person who treated me the very best.
The tears vanished the moment I saw He Wei.
He was standing downstairs, his brows and eyes shrouded in shadow. Who knows how much of what just happened he had witnessed.
After a long while, he asked me, “Why are you crying?”
I had no energy to brush him off.
I simply wiped my face, unwilling to let myself look too disheveled.
Then I ignored him, trying to enter from the other side of the gate.
But as I passed by him, he grabbed my wrist.
He Wei stared at me, displeased. “Is it really that hard for you to say something to me?”
I just felt disgusted.
In that moment, I almost immediately shook off his hand and shouted, “Get lost! Don’t touch me!”
Maybe he rarely saw me yell like that-He Wei looked a bit stunned.
But his innocent expression only made me more annoyed.
Why should I be in so much pain, while he gets to stand by, oblivious and unaffected?
If that’s the case, why does he insist on showing up and being so bothersome?
So I glared at him and said hatefully, “Get lost. Don’t let me see you.”
After that, I went upstairs, not bothering to look at him again.
And finally, he understood my words and didn’t follow me.
That night, I had a dream.
I dreamed of things from long ago.
It was the year I first came to Nancheng.
Back then, my mental state was extremely unstable. When I had episodes, I would smash up the house, and only medication could keep me steady.
In that state, I naturally hated anyone getting close.
But Fu Ziyi was always tirelessly close.
Sometimes he brought a bouquet of flowers, sometimes fresh food, or other beautiful gifts.
Or, when I lost my temper, he would sit on the floor with Zhuozhuo in his arms, quietly watching me.
When I was exhausted, he would help me clean up the mess, and when morning came, he would open the curtains and let the sunlight in.
I can’t remember how long that lasted.
I only remember that one day, I was woken by the sound of construction.
Half-asleep, I walked to the balcony and saw Fu Ziyi downstairs, with workers beside him digging with machines.
I called him and asked what he was doing.
He answered, turned to find me standing on the balcony, then smiled and raised his arm, waving at me.
“Planting trees!” he shouted, his voice so loud I could hear him even without the phone. “Spring is here!”
I squinted at him.
And suddenly, the world became vivid.
The sky was a deep blue, white clouds drifting by, the roof tiles painted an old teal, last night’s rain still not dry.
The air was damp, the ground muddy, and Fu Ziyi’s white shirt was stained with earth. He stood in a dazzling patch of green, waving at me.
And so, my spring truly arrived.

Our Final Spring
The day I found out I had cancer.
He Wei frowned and said coldly to me, “Do you think anyone would be sad if you died? No one would feel bad about it.”
I said,...
