Chapter 3
On my birthday, I rarely bothered to dress up, but that day I put on a beautiful new outfit and was about to do my makeup to give myself a healthy glow.
Suddenly, a sharp pain twisted in my stomach.
The feeling was all too familiar.
I leaned over the sink, retching.
My vision was full of bright red.
My hands shook as I fumbled for the painkillers in my pocket and swallowed them. Only then did the pain ease a little.
After a long while, I turned on the faucet and washed all the blood away.
In the mirror, my face was pale and sickly, dark circles under my eyes, my expression haggard.
In that moment, I suddenly changed my mind and called He Wei to ask which hospital he was at.
He Wei seemed to have expected it and quickly sent me the address.
He Wei really is a strange person.
He called me, and he called He Yu as well.
In the hospital room, their whole family sat happily around the bed.
He Yu held an apple, peeling it as she chatted with a bright smile.
He Wei stood beside her, his hand resting naturally on her shoulder.
On the other side, Mr. He listened intently to her, his eyes full of kindness.
I stood outside the door for a while, watching, and felt there was really no need for me to go in.
I was superfluous.
I was about to set down the fruit basket and leave, but was caught off guard by Mrs. He’s gaze.
She seemed to glance outside by chance, not expecting to meet my eyes.
Her look was indifferent.
The moment our eyes met, I was the first to look away and turn to leave.
“Jiang Yu.”
I had barely taken two steps when, unexpectedly, I heard Mrs. He call my name.
I thought she would keep ignoring me, just like she had for so many years.
But I didn’t stop.
Until He Wei rushed out and blocked my way.
He frowned, a little displeased, and said, “Mom called you. Why are you running away?”
I looked up at him.
Whenever he faced me, he always seemed a little dissatisfied.
But when he was with He Yu, he was completely different.
For a long time, I couldn’t understand it-He Wei was clearly my real brother, so why had he never sided with me?
Not even once.

Our Final Spring
The day I found out I had cancer.
He Wei frowned and said coldly to me, “Do you think anyone would be sad if you died? No one would feel bad about it.”
I said,...
