Chapter 29
To be honest, it’s undeniable that Shen Hang’s mother truly loves him.
At least, at the moment when she cast aside her dignity and knelt before me without hesitation for his sake, I had to admit her love was indeed selfless.
She pleaded earnestly with me: “He made a mistake, and he has to face it. Whatever compensation you want, just name it. As long as we can do it, I’ll work myself to the bone for you, for the rest of my life if I have to.
“But please, I beg you, can you give him a chance to turn over a new leaf? He’s changed now, he won’t do those foolish things again.”
I glanced at Shen Hang, who was standing not far away, and replied carelessly, “If you want me to forgive him, fine. At the very least, he should kneel to me and show some sincerity.”
I thought Shen Hang would refuse, but before his mother could even speak, he had already dropped to his knees, his knees hitting the ground with a dull thud.
Looking at the two of them, I just wanted to laugh.
So he’s truly remorseful and wants to start a new life?
That’s wonderful.
After all, what could be more delightful than snuffing out someone’s hope just before dawn?
At that moment, I genuinely hoped he was truly looking forward to a new life, that he had something to hold on to.
Otherwise, how else could I make you fully experience the taste of despair?
Shen Hang finally dragged his crippled leg and slowly walked over.
His leg was broken by someone I hired.
He must have already realized that he would spend the rest of his life in prison.
He hid a fruit knife, planning to kill me and end it all.
But the bodyguards I hired pinned him down.
Right in front of him, I said to his mother, “See, he’s still capable of murder. He hasn’t changed at all.”
Separated by a thick layer of transparent glass, I heard Shen Hang, barely holding back, ask me, “Where’s my mom?”
I deliberately paused, watching his face contort with anxiety, before slowly answering, “She’s dead.”
Shen Hang’s eyes widened instantly and, agitated, he jumped to his feet: “What the hell did you do?”
I watched his reaction with great interest until he was pinned down by the prison guards, still panting as he said to me, “I did wrong, and I’ll take responsibility for it. But this has nothing to do with my mom. If you want revenge, take it out on me-leave her out of it.”
“How could it have nothing to do with her?” I asked, bored, propping my head on my hand. “Why didn’t she teach you how to be a decent person? Isn’t it because she spoiled you into becoming this way?”
Shen Hang glared at me, eyes wide, clearly furious, yet completely helpless.
Suddenly he said, “You think I’ll believe your crap?”
I smiled indifferently at him. “No one will be coming to see you anymore. Your mother is dead. I’ve been promoted and will be moving to another city.
“When you’re doing prison labor from now on, remember to repent often. You destroyed your own life with your own hands-and got your mother killed, too.”
With those words, I got up and walked away without a backward glance.
I didn’t pay any more attention to Shen Hang’s unwilling shouts.

Our Final Spring
The day I found out I had cancer.
He Wei frowned and said coldly to me, “Do you think anyone would be sad if you died? No one would feel bad about it.”
I said,...
