Chapter 26
In the kitchen, Su Ni was cooking while muttering complaints.
“What kind of person helps a sister with no blood relation bully their own real sister? Seriously, their brain must have a hole.”
I wanted to go help, but she shooed me away: “You just stay put. I don’t need you getting involved in this.”
So I leaned against that familiar spot on the doorframe, quietly listening to her talk.
Su Ni talked more than Fu Ziyi. She rarely paused.
Sometimes, when she got into the rhythm of complaining, she’d say things like, “What kind of eggs did Fu Ziyi buy? How did eggshells end up in the bowl?”
I couldn’t help but laugh.
As if unintentionally, Su Ni suddenly said, “We don’t need their fake kindness. I’ve asked my dad these past few days, and through his old army buddies, we’ve found an expert in this field. We’ll focus on getting you treated and keep them far away.”
I turned my head to look at her, just gazing at her, a little like I was being coy: “No, Sis, I’m so tired.”
Su Ni didn’t know about the things that happened to me in the past. She asked, “Why?”
I didn’t want to say. If I started, it would turn into a long story-too much trouble.
“What about your Doctor Fu? Are you going to give up on him too?”
When Su Ni asked me that, I didn’t know how to answer.
The next morning, I was woken up by knocking on the door.
I’d barely fallen asleep at dawn. My stomach had been hurting all night, and even after taking medicine, it didn’t seem to help.
It kept acting up again and again.
It finally eased up a little by morning.
But I hadn’t slept for even two hours before I was woken.
I opened the door. It was He Jing.
He acted as if he couldn’t see how awful I looked, and said with concern, “Auntie made breakfast. Come eat something with us. Skipping meals is bad for your stomach. If you don’t take care of it when you’re young, you’ll suffer when you’re old.”
Honestly, I was really annoyed by this.
Since we’d already had a complete falling out, there was no need for any more contact.
But he seemed to enjoy it, always doing things that got on my nerves.
I tried to close the door, but he blocked it with his hand.
“Xiao Yu, I know you’re still mad at me. What I did was wrong. But can you give me a chance to make it up to you? You can’t just keep ignoring your dad forever.”
I said, “Move.”
He wouldn’t: “Your mom and I have been here for days, and you haven’t eaten a single meal with us. The past is already behind us. We’re getting old-don’t stay angry with us.”
I tried to hold it in, but couldn’t: “Fine.”

Our Final Spring
The day I found out I had cancer.
He Wei frowned and said coldly to me, “Do you think anyone would be sad if you died? No one would feel bad about it.”
I said,...
