Chapter 25
After He Yu helped my mother out, He Wei did not follow them.
He stood by my bedside for a long time before finally asking, “Why aren’t you saying anything?”
What a strange question.
After I resigned and had nothing to do, Su Ni, who had heard some superstition from somewhere, insisted on dragging me to get a peace amulet.
There was a fortune-telling stand at the temple.
I thought it was fun and drew a lot.
The fortune stick that fell out of the bamboo tube, however, was the worst possible lot.
Su Ni was displeased and said, “This isn’t accurate.”
I smiled and agreed, “Right.”
But on the way home, I couldn’t shake a sense of unease.
The neighbors who had lived next door for a long time were moving out.
Before leaving, the auntie made a whole bunch of food and brought it over to me, nagging, “You’re a young girl, you need to take care of yourself. Don’t always eat takeout. Look at how skinny you’ve become.”
The corridor lights had been changed to a bright, warm yellow.
I stared at that lamp, which didn’t look cheap, for a while, feeling that something was off.
The next second, the door next door opened, and Mr. He came out beaming with joy.
My eyelid twitched.
“Xiao Yu, why are you back so late?”
I didn’t answer, but for some reason, I suddenly thought of the fortune stick from this morning and felt maybe it wasn’t so inaccurate after all.
“Auntie made some soup. Come in and have some.”
I took out my keys to open the door, turning my back to him and said, “No need, I’ve already eaten.”
When I saw He Wei downstairs, Su Ni was complaining about how cold my hands were while tucking them into her pockets.
Who knows what had upset this young master again; he looked like he was here to settle accounts.
“Didn’t I tell you to wait for me that day? Why didn’t you wait?”
I thought for a moment before remembering it was at the hospital that day, when he said he wanted to take me for a full check-up.
But Su Ni later told me that he was busy until the evening before he remembered to check on me in my hospital room.
“Wait for what? Wait for you to remember me on a whim?”
I looked at him, and even the faintest trace of a smile disappeared from my lips.
Perhaps feeling guilty, He Wei’s face looked unpleasant, but he didn’t lose his temper.
He asked again, “Why didn’t you take the case He Corporation assigned to you? It’s not even that troublesome.”
So that’s what this is about.
Su Ni sneered from the side, “Wasn’t that case originally given to Lawyer He? What, now that Lawyer He has to take care of her sick mother and can’t spare the time, you suddenly think of Jiang Yu?”
He Wei clearly couldn’t stand being contradicted, and said coldly, “This is our family business. It’s not your place to interfere.”
“My sister is the family I chose,” I stared into He Wei’s eyes and said each word carefully, “But you, He Wei, don’t throw away the garbage that others don’t want at me again.”
“There are plenty of people who want that case-”
“That’s enough, President He,” Su Ni’s face turned cold. “Anyone in the industry knows that since her internship, He Yu has received plenty of support from He Group, both openly and behind the scenes. So many of those so-called rare cases from President He have been handed to her, haven’t they?
“And as for being a real brother, when Jiang Yu was just starting her internship, getting bullied and looked down on, she never relied on you even once.”
He Wei stared straight at me, unable to say a word.
We all knew Su Ni was telling the truth.

Our Final Spring
The day I found out I had cancer.
He Wei frowned and said coldly to me, “Do you think anyone would be sad if you died? No one would feel bad about it.”
I said,...
