Chapter 24
The illness progressed faster than I expected.
When Su Ni walked into the hospital room carrying a bowl of porridge, I was typing away at my unfinished digital will on my laptop.
“How are you planning to treat it?” Su Ni asked me.
“Surgery, of course. Conservative treatment is just too torturous.” I grinned, carefree.
After a moment’s thought, I quickly added, “Don’t tell anyone about this yet.”
Su Ni looked puzzled. “Not even your family?”
Without looking up, I replied, “Sis, you must be mistaken. I don’t have any family.”
Su Ni gave me a gentle pat.
A bit confused, I followed her gaze-and saw He Wei standing at the door, his face dark.
“Do you think we’re all dead or something?”
I felt a little annoyed and asked, “What are you doing here?”
He Wei, holding back his temper, walked over. “He Yu’s mom is sick. She can’t handle it all by herself.”
I just said, “Oh,” and didn’t say anything else.
He Wei asked again, “What’s wrong with you? Why are you hospitalized?”
“The flu,” I answered with a straight face.
He Wei shot me a glare. “You think I’m an idiot?”
“Who says people can’t die from the flu?”
“Do you have to be so difficult?”
We didn’t end up arguing, because his phone rang.
On the other end, He Yu’s voice came through: “Brother, where did you go? I can’t find you.”
He Wei let out a breath, his tone softening. “Something came up. I’ll be there a bit later.”
After hanging up, He Wei looked at me again, his expression stiff. “You’d better be fine. I’ll have the doctor come check on you later.”
I couldn’t be bothered to respond.
After a moment, he added, “Do you want to go see her mom?”
I was silent for a while, then said, “There’s nothing for me to see.”
I’m not a doctor-there’s not much I can do.
She has people with her already. If I went, it would just make things more awkward.
All things considered, it’s best not to go.
But I didn’t expect my mom to show up.
She had clearly heard what was said, and snapped, “So what if someone raised you for over ten years? Still can’t win your heart. Fine, let’s go. When I die, I won’t need you to care, either.”
I kept my head down and said nothing.

Our Final Spring
The day I found out I had cancer.
He Wei frowned and said coldly to me, “Do you think anyone would be sad if you died? No one would feel bad about it.”
I said,...
