The two of them didn’t seem unusual at all.

Could they really be from Property Management?

But why would Property Management come to check so late at night?

The more I thought about it, the less sense it made.

I took out my phone and opened the owners’ group chat, wanting to see if I’d missed any messages.

But no one was talking in the group.

I live in a new residential complex, in the building furthest inside. There are two units per floor, and six floors in total.

The complex is in a remote location with inconvenient transportation, so the occupancy rate isn’t high.

In my unit, only four or five households have moved in.

Not finding any information about Property Management, I closed my phone in disappointment.

Just then, my phone notified me that someone wanted to add me as a friend.

The group note said 502-it was the man living opposite me.

The friend request message read: [Hello, I’m your neighbor living opposite you. May I ask if Property Management came to your home tonight to check your doors and windows?]

The Property Management people had just entered his home.

Yet he was adding me as a friend to ask.

What’s going on?

I was a bit confused for a moment.
