The banging on the door continued.
Knowing someone was coming up, I didn’t feel quite so afraid anymore.
I moved the chair away.
Shivering, I glanced toward the peephole.
Just one look and I was startled.
The person outside the door was covered in blood.
His hair was disheveled, and the blood on his face blurred his features.
But I could still recognize who he was.
He wasn’t Uncle Wang, but the boyfriend of the girl from 401 downstairs.
I didn’t know his full name.
The girl downstairs called him Xiao Bin.
He really was holding a knife in his left hand.
At that moment, he gripped the knife in his left hand, while his right hand pounded my door over and over.
He stared wide-eyed, always looking in the direction of the peephole.
He knew I was watching him from the peephole. At that moment, the man at the door had twisted features, and I couldn’t tell if he was crying or laughing.
His mouth was wide open, babbling incoherently.
The lights in the hallway went out.
With his movements, the lights flickered back on.
Darkness and light, again and again.
The person outside the door was still covered in blood.
The scene looked truly eerie.
