He was lying on the ground.

Quietly observing everything inside my door.

Maybe he could see me walking around inside the apartment.

I hurriedly sent a message to 502.

[There… there seems to be someone lying at my door, but I’m not sure, I can’t see clearly. Can you check from your side and see if you can spot anything?]

I was terrified.

My hands were trembling as I typed.

502’s apartment is directly across from mine.

He can see everything happening at my door from his side.

But here’s the problem.

Tonight, not even the moon is out. The hallway is pitch black, with nothing but the green glow of the exit sign for illumination.

I kept messaging: [Can you see anything? It’s too dark in the corridor. Be careful, don’t open your door, and whatever you do, don’t let him notice you. I don’t know if it’s a person or something else at my door, but believe me, something’s really wrong here. Don’t open your door.]

502 didn’t reply right away.

After a long while, he finally responded.

He said: [There really is someone lying under your door, and he’s holding a knife.]

I looked through my peephole at 502’s door across the hall, but all I could see was darkness and a faint green light.

It’s so dark in the hallway.

How could he see such details, even noticing the knife?

[Are you sure? How did you see the knife?]

He paused before replying:

[I have a surveillance camera at my door.]

But he was lying.

The wire to his surveillance camera had been cut.

I cut it myself.
