Uncle Wang lives in 101. He is an elderly man who just retired.

Having just turned sixty, he is in good health, has a loud voice, and is warm-hearted.

He always looks cheerful.

There are many things in the new community that aren’t quite in place yet, and he often helps take care of them.

Previously, when the Property Management service was lacking and the residents had conflicts with them, he was always the first to step up.

The day I moved in, I had a lot of stuff.

Uncle Wang saw this and, without a word, ran up and down several times to help me move.

Later, to thank him, I gave him a few packs of local specialties sent from home, but he just smiled and said, “Serving the people.”

Uncle Wang’s wife, Aunt Chen, often says he’s slow at getting things done, never in a hurry even when things are urgent.

But this time, something was different. Every word he wrote was filled with a sense of urgency and pressure.

To be safe, I replied directly: [Sorry Uncle Wang, I’m not staying at home tonight. I’m staying at my classmate’s place. Could you come up and check tomorrow instead?]

0101-Uncle Wang: [Didn’t you just say you were going down to return the hair dryer?]

Me: [She was at home so I was going to return it tonight, but she’s not there, so I’ll give it back another day.]

After I sent the message, Uncle Wang didn’t reply again.
