Chapter 6

By the time I returned, it was already late.

I pushed open the door.

Warm, yellow light spilled across the floor.

Xie Fengnan was sitting by the sofa, going over the accounts.

Hearing the sound, he looked up.

A smile naturally spread across his eyes.

“You’re back?”

He was still wearing the “sibling set” loungewear I had intentionally bought. The soft, beige fabric complemented his fair skin perfectly.

The warm light caught the tips of his hair.

His whole being seemed like a fluffy, soft animal. Being held in his arms would surely feel incredibly safe.

The “house-husband” vibes were overwhelming.

It was too much… He looked just like a husband waiting for his wife to come home.

Heat rushed to my face.

I suddenly felt myself overheating and bolted toward the bathroom. “I’m going to take a shower first.”

When I came out, Xie Fengnan was still working on the accounts.

His eyes were cast down, his lashes long and slender. His lips were a healthy shade of pink.

He looked so soft, completely devoid of any defenses.

I sat down beside him.

Xie Fengnan didn’t say anything.

I tilted my head and sniffed. It was the same scent as mine.

For some reason, I felt a surge of happiness.

I pretended to play a game on my phone, but in reality, I was using small movements to secretly edge closer to him.

After a crushing defeat in the game, I let out a wail and took the opportunity to lean my head against his shoulder.

My brother usually maintained such perfect boundaries. The last time we had any physical contact was during the New Year’s holiday at the start of the year.

We were having a snowball fight and I accidentally fell into the snow. He had to dig me out.

His body stiffened almost imperceptibly for a moment. Then, a hand settled on the top of my head, ruffling my hair. “Tired?”

His voice seemed a bit deeper than usual.

My heart drummed against my ribs. My nose was filled with the clean, pleasant scent of his body. Even though we used the same body wash, I couldn’t help but think he smelled better.

I opened my mouth to say something, but he suddenly put down the ledger and stood up. “I’m going to the bathroom.”

Now was my chance.

I immediately got up and went to the kitchen to fix him a glass of “enhanced” milk.

Just as I was turning around with the glass, he walked back in, and I nearly crashed into his chest.

“Brother, have some milk.”

Xie Fengnan took the glass. His gaze lingered on the rim for a second or two before his long lashes swept down, masking the expression in his eyes.

Then, very obediently, he tilted his head back slightly and drank it down.

The lines of his throat shifted as he swallowed. Under the light, that patch of skin was so pale it was almost translucent.

“Thanks, Zhiyu.”

He set the empty glass down, his voice as gentle as ever, and turned to the kitchen to wash it.

A moment later, he brought out another glass of milk and handed it to me.

I downed it in one go, then went back to my room to post in the group chat:

– Come on, voice chat.

– If I go silent at midnight, remember to wake me up.

Xia Mo started a voice call. The three of us chatted for a bit online.

After finishing my nighttime routine, I lay in bed, waiting excitedly for time to pass.

And then…

Once again, I fell into a dead sleep.
