Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Master was momentarily speechless, while the rest of the disciples were busy gossiping.
The toddler spoke in a milky voice, “Are you my daddy?”
Master looked like he wanted to die. “Is there any way to prove that this is not my child?”
I lowered my voice. “Master, just give in to Fourth Junior Sister.”
Master glanced at me, his eyes filled with grief and indignation. “But Fourth Junior Sister and I are innocent!”
I knew that. Fourth Junior Sister just wanted a Spirit Pet.
Master looked around. Of all the disciples in the Sect, not a single one believed him.
He grit his teeth and said to the toddler, “A son killing his father will surely bring divine retribution. Why don’t we test it?”
The toddler looked curious as a dagger suddenly appeared in his hand. Master gripped the child’s hand, his expression solemn, and prepared to plunge it into his own chest.
The melon seeds in my hand suddenly lost their flavor. Master was choosing death over submission.
Fourth Junior Sister flew forward to snatch the blade. “You’re scaring him!”
When the toddler saw Fourth Junior Sister, he smiled even more happily. “Big sister, you saved me again.”
Master finally breathed a sigh of relief.
I handed him some melon seeds. “Master, have some to calm your nerves.”
That night, the five of us sat in a circle with Fourth Junior Sister’s little toddler in the middle.
Third Junior Sister pinched his cheek. “Did you steal this kid?”
Second Junior Sister reached out to probe his spiritual power. “He’s a mortal, but his Spiritual Root is good. He can cultivate.”
Fourth Junior Sister sighed. “He’s an orphan. I saved him when he was about to be eaten by wild beasts.”
Fifth Junior Sister sized him up. “Raising a child is very expensive.”
I blinked while cracking melon seeds. “Fifth Junior Sister, you have twenty thousand Spirit Stones.”
Fifth Junior Sister cried out in alarm, “Eldest Senior Sister, don’t reveal my wealth!”
Fourth Junior Sister turned her head slowly. “Little Fifth, let’s raise him together. Later, we can send him out to perform for money to pay you back.”
Fifth Junior Sister peeked at him. “Can he actually earn money?”
Third Junior Sister tilted her head. “With a face like that, if all else fails, he can always sell his body.”
Under everyone’s expectant gazes, Fifth Junior Sister nodded tearfully. “I’m going to charge interest.”
Fourth Junior Sister held the toddler up high. “I’m not going to woo Master anymore. I already have the best Spirit Pet. Quick, call me Mommy.”
The toddler reached out to grab Fourth Junior Sister’s hair. “Big sister! Big sister!”
Fifth Junior Sister gave a sly smile. “I’m not wooing Master anymore either. I compiled the stories Second Junior Sister wrote into books and sold them. They sold out in the Sect these past few days. I made a fortune!”
Second Junior Sister added, “Remember to give me my cut. Fifty-fifty.”
I brushed the melon seed shells off my hands. “What about Second Junior Sister and Third Junior Sister?”
Second Junior Sister and Third Junior Sister looked at each other, unable to decide.
Fourth Junior Sister spoke slowly, “Haven’t you noticed? Today, Master was willing to prove his innocence with death just because Eldest Senior Sister didn’t believe him.”
My movements froze. Luckily, I hadn’t put the melon seed in my mouth yet, or I would have choked to death again.
Third Junior Sister stared at me suspiciously. “I’m much more beautiful than Eldest Senior Sister. Does Master not care about looks?”
I grabbed Third Junior Sister’s mirror. “I’m not ugly either.”
Second Junior Sister sighed. “It seems relying on Master to break through my cultivation realm is a lost cause. Perhaps if I didn’t cultivate, I should have been a writer.”
The group dispersed in the middle of the night.
After returning, I couldn’t suppress the excitement in my heart. I hid under the covers in ecstasy. Could it be that the one-in-five chance had actually landed on me?
I tossed and turned. Master had indeed been very attentive to me lately; I should take the initiative.
The next day, I woke up late. With dark circles under my eyes, I went to find Master, only to see the disciples flocking toward Reflection Cliff.
I pulled a junior brother aside. “Why is everyone going to Reflection Cliff?”
“Master went down the mountain today and found a genius at the bottom of Reflection Cliff. He’s about to take them in as a disciple.”
I followed him. The four Junior Sisters were already there.
On Reflection Cliff, Master’s robes fluttered slightly. At his feet lay a person, a bloody mess whose face was unrecognizable.
I squeezed through the crowd. “Junior Sisters, what kind of genius is this?”
Second Junior Sister said, “This person’s bones are all broken, but their Spiritual Vein is rare. They are indeed a genius.”
Fourth Junior Sister added, “For someone to be tortured like this, they must harbor a blood feud.”
Third Junior Sister noted, “This person is a striking beauty.”
I was shocked. “You can tell if they’re beautiful from this?”
Third Junior Sister turned her head. “I’m a professional. This woman is more beautiful than you, though still below me.”
Did I ask for a comparison? Wait, it’s a woman.
I gripped my melon seeds tightly. “It looks like this is Sixth Junior Sister.”
