chapter 1
I discovered Zhou Yan’s secret in the fifth year of our marriage.
On the way back from a business trip, the bus I was on got into an accident.
Fortunately, I listened to Zhou Yan and fastened my seatbelt as soon as I got on. Only my calf was slightly injured.
In the clinic, a young girl in the next room was crying on the phone to her boyfriend.
“It hurts so much, when can you come pick me up?”
“Okay, I’ll wait for you obediently.”
She hung up, her eyes curving as she smiled.
Obviously, her boyfriend on the other end of the line had cheered her up.
She glanced at me and, sounding innocent, asked:
“Sister, you’re hurt too. Why don’t you ask your partner to come pick you up?”
I was taken aback for a moment. “My husband has work to do and doesn’t have time to come.”
She tilted her head, a smile she couldn’t hide appearing at the corners of her lips:
“Then sister, you’re quite pitiful.”
She was still very young, and her intention to show off was as blatant as a child’s.
I smiled, not offended. “Yes, young people’s love is always inseparable, even for a moment.”
Zhou Yan and I were like that when we were eighteen.
At the teacher appreciation banquet after the college entrance exam, he got drunk.
Holding my hand, he proudly announced to everyone:
“As soon as we graduate from university, I’ll marry Tang Yi.”
“Nothing can tear us apart.”
After getting my wound treated, I thought about the past as I walked out of the clinic.
Because of my injured calf, I walked slowly.
I hailed a cab at the hospital entrance and had just gotten in.
A few meters away, a familiar black Bentley suddenly stopped.
The car door opened, and Zhou Yan got out, his expression faintly anxious.
I was stunned.
How did he know I was hurt?
I was about to roll down the window and call out to him.
The next second, the young girl from the ward ran over and threw herself into his arms.
Zhou Yan took a step back, carefully avoiding her bandaged arm, and held her tightly.
Through the car door, their voices came in, a bit muffled.
“You’re still so reckless even after getting hurt.”
The girl looked up at him, acting spoiled: “I haven’t seen you for days. Even if I’m hurt, I want a hug.”
Zhou Yan’s voice was full of helplessness and indulgence:
“I really can’t let you out of my sight, not even for a second.”
