chapter 7
I refused sternly: “No help!”
An ex should be as quiet as if dead, but not him-he’s not only come back from the grave, he’s even refused to leave my house.
“I won’t let you help for nothing.”
Xu Mo’s voice carried a hint of urgency. “I’ll repay you.”
“Repay?” I sneered. “With that body of yours that doesn’t even exist anymore?”
His shadowy figure flushed slightly. “Or… I could pay you.”
“No deal.” I curled up on the sofa and turned my face away.
Xu Mo crouched beside me.
Strangely, this familiar closeness actually gave me a sense of comfort.
Hadn’t we already broken up?
Why did I still feel this way about him?
“So what will it take for you to help me?” He lowered his voice, almost pleading.
My attitude remained firm: “Even the police couldn’t find your body-what could I possibly do?”
Xu Mo fell silent, then said softly, “Then… could you come home with me and see my parents?”
I should have refused.
But deep inside, curiosity was stirring.
All those years together, he’d never mentioned his family.
Lin Qi, get a grip!
I cursed myself inwardly.
We’ve already broken up-why bother learning about his family?
“Why don’t you go back yourself?”
I couldn’t help but ask.
Following the address he gave me, I arrived at an imposing building and stopped in front of a certain apartment.
After pressing the doorbell, the door was opened by a well-dressed middle-aged man.
Xu Mo’s father, Xu Hongyuan.
“Hello, Uncle Xu,” I greeted politely.
“You again.” His tone left me frozen in place.
We’d clearly never met before, so what did he mean by “again”?
