Chapter 3

I think I’m the only smart person here.

I’ve already pulled off a successful rebellion. The Deposed Emperor and the Former Crown Prince are definitely priority targets for execution.

The room was deathly silent.

I looked up to see a variety of expressions.

My dad’s brow was furrowed, his lips pressed thin in silence, as if he had encountered a difficult problem.

The Deposed Emperor leaned lazily against a bookshelf, the corners of his mouth curling into a smirk.

I was just wondering what he was smiling about when, without realizing it, my gaze collided with the Former Crown Prince’s eyes.

His gaze was full of resentment.

“You didn’t kill a single person during your rebellion, yet you actually want to order this prince’s death?”

It’s not that I don’t kill people; it’s just that I haven’t had the chance, okay?

My dad snapped out of his daze, cleared his throat into his fist, and said, “Even though we are rebels, we shouldn’t take things too far.”

Imperial Father told me to take the Former Crown Prince away. As for the Deposed Emperor, who refused to submit even unto death, he would be kept under strict supervision by my father first.

My dad is still too naive.

How can you let another man sleep soundly beside your own bed?

Since I had arrived in a hurry and didn’t have a Princess’s manor yet, I moved into the Eastern Palace for the time being.

That night, I had just finished tucking myself in and was about to fall asleep when someone yanked the covers off me.

Dammit! It took me half an hour to tuck those corners in! Argh!

The Former Crown Prince, Li Muqing, was sitting by the edge of the bed, removing his hairpins and outer robes, preparing for sleep.

Just as he was almost finished undressing, I spoke up to stop him.

“Don’t sleep here. There’s someone in this bed.”

Li Muqing held up a candle, its light illuminating me.

“It’s you?” He leaned in closer. “You wanted to order my death during the day, and now you want to assassinate me in bed at night?”

I grew up on the frontier and had never seen anyone as good-looking as Li Muqing.

He was so close that my throat went dry, and I subconsciously opened my mouth.

My brain must have short-circuited because I leaned forward and blew out his candle.

Li Muqing was stunned. “Chen Sijun, what do you think you’re doing?”

I thought about it, then lay back down calmly, staring straight at him.

“I want…”

The candlestick in his hand tipped over.

Li Muqing’s expression changed instantly. He shoved the blanket over my face. “Don’t even think about it.”

Every time I poked my head out, he would swiftly cover me back up.

After a few rounds of this, I got so annoyed that I used a Minor Grappling Technique to pin him facedown on the bed, his cheek pressed against the quilt.

Even though he was the Crown Prince, his martial skills were mediocre. I was thrilled.

“Chen Sijun, you can’t force me!”

The man beneath me was still struggling violently.

I pinched his ear. “I want you to help me tuck in the covers!”

“…Oh.”

I ended up wrapped like a giant silkworm cocoon, barely able to turn over.

Li Muqing looked very satisfied with his handiwork. Then, he grabbed another quilt and lay down beside me.

He said he couldn’t sleep in any other bed.

Maybe the rebellion had been too exhausting, because I fell asleep very quickly.

When I woke up the next morning, nothing had happened, but we had both shifted in our sleep.

I moved my head away from his chest, and he withdrew his hand from my waist.

We both stayed quiet the whole time, maintaining a facade of calm.

Li Muqing even let me use the water to wash my face first.

Once I had fixed myself up, I walked out of the palace with a composed expression.

Then I hiked up my skirt and sprinted all the way to Imperial Father’s living quarters.

“Dad! Things aren’t clean between me and the Former Crown Prince anymore! What do I do? Help!”

I pounded urgently on the palace doors.

Finally, the door opened.

But the person who opened it was the Former Emperor. He was draped in a purple outer robe, his long hair as dark as ink, looking weary.

He looked me up and down indifferently and opened his mouth to speak. “What did you do to my son?”

My pupils dilated in shock.

This… this… this… wasn’t he supposed to be under strict supervision?

I gripped the doorframe for support, my body swaying slightly, my voice trembling.

“What… what did you do to my dad? Is he already dead?”
