My brother was taken to the police station.

Several chilling photographs were laid out on the interrogation room table: mangled bodies covered in wounds, faces masked by the gray pallor of death.

“Do you recognize her?”

The police officer held up a photo for my brother to see.

This one was actually quite pretty; the girl in the picture was smiling, full of life.

But why did she look so familiar?

The officer held a phone sealed in an evidence bag in front of my brother.

The screen showed that my brother had sent a message asking Bao Ying to meet in the suburban woods.

So, “Baby” in my brother’s phone was actually Bao Ying.

“Yes, I did ask her out!”

My brother wiped away a tear, his eyes swirling with regret.

“But I got tied up with work that day and forgot all about it!”

“I apologized to her later, but she wouldn’t respond. I thought she was just angry that I stood her up!”

The officer held up a transparent evidence bag containing a bracelet with a small bell dangling from it.
