Her parents had developed a habit of going out for a walk after dinner.
This was because Lin Shishi was terrified of their loathing gazes.
When her brother wasn’t home, she didn’t even dare to step out of the storage room to eat.
Only when the house was empty would she creep into the kitchen like a mouse, scavenging for something to eat.

Panic-stricken, she curled up at the foot of her bed, feeling as though she had tumbled into a deep well with no way to save herself.
She could only wait in agony for night to fall, for light to flood into the darkness.
The door to the storage room creaked open.
That man, like a deity, finally approached.
A fervent embrace, scalding words of love.
He was like a sun suddenly rising over the ruins, granting her tender warmth. He was the only ray of light in her endless darkness.
