Chapter 1

My brother has a girlfriend.

In the spring that I died, he brought a beautiful girl home with him.

My father and mother welcomed her with smiles.

How strange. They divorced a long time ago; why are they living together again?

“Hello, Uncle, Auntie! My name is Lin Shishi!”

Ah, Lin Shishi!

She was acting so humble and polite that I almost didn’t recognize her.

After all, I was always the one lying on the ground looking up at her. She liked to use the soles of her shoes to soil my face, then spit on me to wash it clean.

Mom made a huge spread of food.

Mom is a chief surgeon and is always busy.

Mom placed the tenderest piece of fish belly into her bowl.

As Lin Shishi picked up her chopsticks, the bracelet on her wrist jingled, catching my brother’s eye.

Brother, do you remember? That was the birthday gift you sent me from abroad!

Unfortunately, I only wore it to school for one day before it no longer belonged to me.

“Thank you, Auntie!”

Lin Shishi put the fish in her mouth. Her expression froze for a moment before she squeezed out a stiff smile. “It’s… it’s delicious!”

The way she struggled to swallow made her praise seem a bit forced.

But I remember Mom’s cooking being quite good!

“Is that so? If it’s good, then eat more!”

Mom actually believed her. Beaming with joy, she served her more than half the fish.

But as a doctor, wasn’t Mom supposed to be good at reading people?

It was my brother who noticed his girlfriend’s predicament. He leaned in and whispered, “I know my mom isn’t the best cook, but this is the first time I’ve brought a girlfriend home. She’s been busy in the kitchen since early this morning…”

A hint of disappointment flickered across my brother’s captivating face.

Lin Shishi immediately stuffed a large piece of fish into her mouth. Seeing my brother smile, she began to eat even more enthusiastically.
