Chapter 3

So, the reason my boyfriend couldn’t move on to the afterlife was this:

He died with money left in the bank!

My boyfriend had me log into his Alipay account.

Inside, there was exactly one hundred thousand yuan.

“Spend every last cent, and the faster the better. But you’re running a fever right now, so if I make you go shopping…”

“It’s fine!” I interrupted him. “A little fever won’t stop me from shopping!”

Armed with this small fortune, I set out immediately.

Within an hour, I was strutting down the street in Dior heels and a Louis Vuitton coat, clutching five shopping bags from different luxury brands.

I felt like I was already halfway cured.

He, however, looked like he was in agony.

“One hundred thousand yuan, and you spent it all on clothes?”

“And bags…”

“I’m saying, couldn’t you buy something with actual value?”

“Like what?”

“You know… comic books, figurines… things with collector’s value.”

“Alright, shut up.”

Ignoring his suggestions, I hauled my mountain of bags into a seafood restaurant.

“I’ve wanted to eat here for a long time, but I could never justify the price.”

Who would have thought that even with a 100-degree fever, I could still put away half a king crab, twenty mantis shrimp, two pounds of Boston lobster, and a whole plate of sea cucumber fried rice-no green onions.

He sighed from the sidelines. “You really shouldn’t have ordered the carbs…”

“What do you know? Carbs are the soul of the meal!”

After a morning of splurging, his Alipay balance was zero.

But he was still standing there.

In fact, his form was becoming clearer and clearer, to the point where he didn’t look like a ghost at all.

“What’s the deal? Is there more money left?”

He slapped his forehead. “I remember now! There’s one more sum of money that hasn’t been spent.”

My interest was piqued. “Where is it? I’ll help you! Don’t be shy!”

He hesitated for a moment.

“But that money is a debt a buddy of mine owes me. If you want to spend it, you’ll have to collect it first.”

I spat out a piece of king crab shell. “Is it Bai Ye?”

His expression turned complicated. “Yeah…”

“How much?”

“One hundred and fifty thousand.”

“One hundred and fifty thousand! We were together for so many years-how did I not know he owed you that much?”

I caught COVID. When my fever hit 102 degrees, I saw my boyfriend.

But he’d been dead for years.

That meant what I was looking at was a ghost!

I held up the talisman on...
