chapter 7
I glanced out the window, watching Mu Yebai’s car drive away before I dared to drift outside the door.
Mu Yebai had brought over a few clothes and cosmetics I’d left at his house and forgotten to pack.
There weren’t many things; they all fit into a single cardboard box.
Mu Yebai hadn’t even bothered to tidy them up-he’d just stuffed them haphazardly into the box.
I crouched down to take a look, feeling a bit embarrassed that my “junk” was dumped at the doorstep for all the neighbors to see.
I tried to lift the box, but my hand passed right through it.
That bastard Mu Yebai!
Tonight, I decided I’d stand by his bedside and scare him!
On the 24th hour after my death, I stood at Mu Yebai’s bedside.
In my old neighborhood, I ran into a ghostly older sister who had died by jumping off a building. She told me that since I’d just died, I couldn’t do things like the more experienced ghosts-knocking over water cups or making noises to frighten humans.
All I could do now was wait until he fell asleep, when his yang energy was weaker, and try to scare him through dreams or something similar.
At one in the morning, I was crouched at Mu Yebai’s bedside, but he wasn’t there.
Mu Yebai was still working in his study.
I yawned, quietly sighing: If you want to look glamorous in front of others, you have to suffer behind the scenes.
Being a CEO really isn’t a job just anyone can do.
I stretched and drifted into Mu Yebai’s study, only to find he wasn’t working at all. He was sitting at his desk, seemingly deep in thought.
Mu Yebai’s personality was cold and distant; the color scheme of his house was all black, white, and gray, and his study was no exception.
He’d only turned on the desk lamp. Half of his refined features were hidden in darkness, the other half illuminated by the cool-toned light, making him seem even more enigmatic.
He lowered his gaze, the computer screen glowing in front of him. Judging by his expression, there was a strong sense of melancholy about him.
I drifted past him, and happened to glance at his computer screen, realizing he wasn’t working at all.
On the screen was his WeChat chat with Li Wei.
Li Wei said: “I’ll be back in the country on the eighth.”
Mu Yebai replied briefly: “What time is your flight? I’ll pick you up.”
Li Wei gave her flight number and the time. Mu Yebai said: “Okay.”
Mu Yebai had always been like this-whenever Li Wei asked for something, he would do his best to fulfill it.
Standing behind Mu Yebai, looking at this brief conversation, the suffocating feeling of my heart being gripped and released was much lighter than when I first learned of Li Wei’s existence.
