chapter 5
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, every household was filled with joy.
My family was joyful too.
I sat on the bathroom vanity, watching myself soaking in the bathtub.
The entire bathroom was bathed in a bright red glow. Aside from being a bit terrifying, the color was actually quite festive.
Around seven or eight in the morning, everyone started bustling about.
The neighbors were making dumplings, and the chopping of the dumpling filling sounded busy and lively.
Downstairs, it seemed someone was cooking Hehua fish (a type of local fish dish). The aroma drifted up through the pipes. I touched my stomach and suddenly remembered that I hadn’t eaten anything for two whole days before I committed suicide.
After downing a bottle of red wine, I lay in the bathtub.
Now, smelling all these delicious scents, I started to regret not having a good meal before ending my life.
Dying during the New Year was bad enough, but I’d even become a hungry ghost.
Just as I was debating whether to float over to the neighbor’s to watch her make dumplings, or go downstairs to check out the Hehua fish, someone knocked on my door.
At this hour, who would come to my house?
My mind started searching through my social circle. After graduating from college, I became a full-time housewife and basically lost touch with my old friends. I couldn’t fit into the wealthy wives’ circle either, so I had almost no friends.
Could it be a delivery?
As I wondered if I had any packages I hadn’t signed for recently, I floated over to the door.
I looked through the peephole, and when I saw who was outside, I was stunned.
Why would Mu Yebai appear at my door?
