At this moment, I have already become a ghost, standing beside my own corpse.

White Impermanence, the soul guide, stood in front of me, flipping through the Book of Fate in his hands as he searched for something.

“What is your name?”

“Luo Wanyin.” I gave my name, hoping White Impermanence would take me away so I could be reincarnated into a good family.

But White Impermanence’s gaze lingered on the Book of Fate for a long while before he finally said to me:

“Your lifespan is not over yet, and there’s still a child in your belly. Why did you commit suicide?”

I glanced at my own bloodless body soaking in the bathtub.

“I didn’t want to live anymore, so I killed myself.”

White Impermanence was so angered by my words that even his mustache went crooked. He patted the Book of Fate in his hand and said, “Do you know that committing suicide before your lifespan is up is just like making a false police report in the mortal world? It’s immoral. And the child in your belly was supposed to have a brand new life, but because you killed yourself, the child can’t even be born!”

Heaven knows, I truly didn’t know I was pregnant when I killed myself.

But after hearing White Impermanence say all this, I frowned. “Why are there so many rules even for wanting to die?”

White Impermanence said, “There are still many beautiful things in life you need to experience. Be good, listen, and get back into your body.”

I thought of my vampire-like, mean-spirited parents, my spendthrift sister and brother, and the cold face of my ex-husband.

My attitude was firm: “There is nothing beautiful in my life. Just take me away. In my next life, I’d rather be a cat or a dog.”

No matter how White Impermanence tried to persuade me, I refused to return to my body.

So White Impermanence said to me, “For those who commit suicide before their lifespan is up, the reincarnation procedures are very difficult to process. How about this: I’ll give you one month. You can remain in the mortal world as a ghost. If, after this month, you still haven’t found anything worth living for, then I’ll help you with the reincarnation procedures.”

I thought it over and agreed to White Impermanence’s conditions.

It’s not easy to become a ghost, so staying in the mortal world and having some fun doesn’t sound too bad.
