chapter 6
The wall outside the ward was too cold. The longer I leaned against it, the colder my back became.
My mom sent me another WeChat message, pulling me out of my tangled, chaotic memories.
This time, she sent a text: “Did you run into Jiang Jiang again?”
She didn’t send a voice message-proof enough of her anger.
Feeling a bit irritated, I turned off the screen. When I looked up, I saw Jiang Jiang not far away, his features cool and aloof.
I had no idea how long he had been standing there. He was still holding a medical file, his face as calm as ever.
I was so shocked I couldn’t say a word for a long time.
So he never left? Was he waiting for me on purpose?
Jiang Jiang glanced at the thermos in my hand, his tone indifferent and inexplicably cold: “Going to get hot water for him?”
I froze for a moment, but before I could reply, he turned and walked away.
By the time I realized what was happening, I had already followed him into the elevator.
Facing his cold gaze, I tried to explain calmly,
“The nurse just told me the water dispenser on this floor is broken. It probably won’t be fixed until tomorrow. She asked me to go to the third floor to get water.”
That nurse also mentioned that Jiang Jiang’s office was on the third floor.
The cramped space was as eerily quiet as the night.
In my line of sight, Jiang Jiang stood with his hands in his pockets, staring straight ahead, a faint sharpness emanating from him.
I leaned against the icy wall, almost entranced as I gazed at his profile.
He was steadier than he had been five years ago, and even better looking.
Sensing my gaze, Jiang Jiang glanced at me lightly.
There was clear mockery at the corner of his lips and in his eyes, completely unhidden.
After hesitating for a long time, I finally spoke.
“Jiang Jiang, meeting you again is actually quite a surprise for me, and I’m quite hap-”
Before I could finish the word “happy,” a cold, deep voice cut me off. “I have no desire to see you.”
My body instantly stiffened, my chest aching with a sour, unbearable tightness.
The elevator doors opened. Without a backward glance, Jiang Jiang strode away.
I bit my lip and left the elevator as well.
Honestly, I couldn’t quite figure out the current Jiang Jiang.
He said he didn’t want to see me, yet he didn’t walk particularly fast, almost as if he was waiting for me. Even after entering his office, he didn’t close the door.
After only a few seconds of thought, I went in.
“Lock the door.”
Hearing this, I paused, hesitating as I glanced at him.
Jiang Jiang was just taking off his white coat. Our eyes met; his expression was calm, betraying no emotion.
I lowered my gaze. As soon as I locked the door, my waist was suddenly gripped tightly, and my body was pressed against the wall.
The force was so strong it made my spine tremble. I couldn’t help but frown and let out a muffled sound.
But before I could make a sound, my lips were sealed. That familiar, crisp scent enveloped me, leaving no room to breathe.
He kissed me fiercely, almost as if he wanted to devour me whole.
All those times before, I had never been treated so roughly.
My tongue tingled and ached, and I felt utterly wronged.
I couldn’t help but struggle, but he only pinned me harder against the wall.
Jiang Jiang finally pulled away from my lips. His dark eyes were now tinged with desire, yet still icy cold.
He stared at me for a moment, then let out a cold, almost mocking laugh. “Isn’t this what you wanted?”
I froze, but that only gave him the chance to push his luck further.
As his hand reached for the zipper on my back, Jiang Jiang’s phone rang.
Instinctively, I glanced at the caller ID. The name displayed was: Chu Chu
My heart skipped a beat.
Chu Chu-was that the pregnant woman’s name?
In a daze, I felt Jiang Jiang release my hand. He took a few steps forward and quickly answered the call.
The voice on the other end sounded anxious, almost crying.
I watched as Jiang Jiang frowned slightly, pulling his clothes back on as he walked out, his tone softening a little. “I’ll be right there.”
I walked out of the office in a daze, watching his departing figure, feeling lost and empty.
When I turned around, I saw Gu Zhan standing there, barely managing to stay upright with a crutch, staring straight at me, his eyes darkening.
