My mom repeatedly reminded me that Gu Zhan had just undergone surgery and needed someone to stay with him and take care of him for the next few days.
Naturally, this responsibility fell on me, who had just resigned from my job.
Before I left the house, my mom noticed my reluctance and spoke with a tone of disappointment,
“Ah Zhan is a good kid, I’ve watched him grow up since he was little. How is he any worse than that Jiang Jiang? Why are you so stubborn…”
“Mom!” I almost snapped, cutting her off sharply.
I never imagined that even after five years, just hearing that name would make my nose sting and my heart ache deeply.
“You can keep trying to match us up, but Gu Zhan doesn’t like me anyway.”
I forced myself to breathe steadily, tossed out the words stiffly, grabbed the thermos, and left.
When I arrived at the hospital room, Gu Zhan was holding his phone, eyes focused, his long fingers dancing across the screen.
A sweet, girlish voice came through the receiver-it was exactly Gu Zhan’s type.
“You don’t look like a patient at all.”
He glanced at me, smiling carelessly, “Are you jealous?”
I couldn’t be bothered to respond and picked up a book to read.
Half an hour later, Gu Zhan suddenly grabbed my arm.
“Speak,” I said without looking up.
He was silent for a moment, then almost gritted his teeth as he said, “I need to go to the bathroom.”
I paused, looked up, and saw Gu Zhan’s slightly averted profile and the tips of his ears tinged red.
Supporting a grown man who’s six foot three was no easy task.
He was very weak, his entire weight pressing down on me. By the time we reached the bathroom, I was nearly exhausted.
After he finally finished, he had the decency to lean against the wall himself, letting me rest for a while.
As I wiped my sweat and tried to compose myself, I saw Jiang Jiang in a white coat.
He seemed to be waiting for someone.
In the dim light, the man’s features were sharp, with a straight nose and thin lips. His cool, clear eyes were slightly lowered, gradually overlapping with the clean, aloof boy in my memory.
All my reason, restraint, and patience shattered-I almost rushed over to him.
If only there hadn’t been a pregnant woman by his side.
He lowered his head slightly, half-embracing the pregnant woman, his posture intimate.
What chilled me even more was that I vaguely heard the pregnant woman call him:
“Husband.”
