Chapter 3
Chapter 3
For the first time ever, I only made enough breakfast for one person, despite having woken up early to cook for him every single day.
He sat across the table from me, propping his chin up in his hand, wearing a loose-fitting T-shirt. His peach-blossom eyes always held a look that seemed deeply affectionate.
“Is there none for me?”
I nodded, keeping my eyes down as I stirred my coffee.
“You always complain that my cooking doesn’t taste good anyway.”
In truth, I had frequently brought him breakfast since we first got together. In those chat logs I’d found, he either just took a few bites or turned around and gave the bento boxes I’d spent so much time preparing to his friends who hadn’t had time to buy their own.
He let out a short laugh from across the table.
I looked up and glared at him.
“I was wrong, wifey.” The early morning light drifted softly into his eyes.
I always felt he was far more at ease in this relationship than I was. It wasn’t that I didn’t know how many exes he’d had before me, or how many past girlfriends it had taken to hone those smooth techniques of his.
He was my first love. Up until now, we were actually supposed to go register our marriage today.
We had already met each other’s parents, and the arrangements for the house and car had been settled. If I just decided not to get married now, I could already imagine what everyone around us would say about me.
That I was being willful, melodramatic… that it was something from so long ago, was it really worth caring about that much?
I stood up and walked to the entryway. I had originally taken the whole day off because my mother had consulted a master to find an auspicious date-a perfect day for registering a marriage. But now, I was getting ready to head into work instead.
Before I could open the door to leave, he grabbed my wrist from behind.
He didn’t ask why we weren’t going to get our marriage certificate today, nor did he tell me not to come back if I left. He simply looked at me with calm eyes, appearing almost helpless.
He was so calm that it made me feel like I was just a child throwing a tantrum.
“I think Ah Yu’s breakfast is delicious. Truly delicious.”
He reached out and fastened the top button of my collar, which I’d missed in my hurried departure.
We stared at each other in silence for a long moment.
The emotion in his eyes felt like something that would melt me the moment I touched it.
I took a step back, but he caught my wrist and pulled me in, wrapping his arm around my waist to kiss me.
Unlike our usual morning kisses, this one felt as if he wanted to devour me whole.

The day before our wedding, I accidentally stumbled upon a chat log between him and one of his old buddies.
“I’ve never met anyone so easy to fool.”
