Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Last night, we slept in separate rooms. For the first time in two months and three days, we were apart.
I had a dream that could hardly be called pleasant; it unceremoniously awakened memories I had kept buried for a very long time.
It felt like it was back when we had just made our relationship official.
We had agreed to go to the grand opening of a local amusement park’s night session, meeting in front of the library.
I started getting ready that morning, changing outfits over and over again. My roommates were shocked that someone as quiet and unassuming as me was making such a fuss, but I ended up arriving an hour early.
Since it was our first date, my heart was drumming against my ribs.
But I waited until the streetlights flickered on one by one, and still, he didn’t show.
I waited in the biting autumn wind for over two hours before he finally called.
He sounded incredibly apologetic over the phone, telling me he’d lost track of time while working on an experiment.
Later, one of his friends let it slip that he had actually spent the entire night at an internet cafe playing games with the guys.
Was I sad back then?
I don’t remember. The truth is, I’ve always been the type to be abandoned. For better or worse, I had long since grown used to it.
Later, he gave me a bouquet of flowers, and I went right back to following him around like a loyal puppy.
In those chat logs I found, he called me “stupid.”
Stupid and easy to appease.

The day before our wedding, I accidentally stumbled upon a chat log between him and one of his old buddies.
“I’ve never met anyone so easy to fool.”
