Chapter 5
Chapter 5
I hid it so well.
No one knew what Liang Jiao was doing to me or how I had lost my dignity.
One moment, Liang Jiao would be pulling my hair for his own amusement; the next, I’d be on a video call with my sister, a bright smile plastered across my face.
I asked her how she was doing.
She told me she was doing great, that her roommates were all kind to her, and that I shouldn’t worry.
I believed her. I truly believed her.
It wasn’t until my sister jumped from a building that I found out Little White Bear hadn’t let her go.
Little White Bear claimed she had lost some money and spread rumors that my sister was a thief.
A stack of cash was “found” under my sister’s bed in her old dorm room.
Every single girl in the class isolated her.
The entire class.
No one spoke to her. Before class, the books she placed in the front row would be thrown to the very back. When it came to group projects, no one would partner with her.
My sister endured it every day. She didn’t want to tell me; she didn’t want to cause me any trouble.
Because I had once told her, “We don’t have parents anymore. We can’t afford to cause trouble. There’s no one left to clean up our messes.”
My sister was so obedient. She loved me more than anyone.
Then, Little White Bear sent the video of my humiliation to her.
Little White Bear said, “Look, Cheng Xiatian, this is your sister. Your sister is a…”
She pursed her lips and mouthed a single, vile word.
That was the first time my sister ever lost her temper. She fought Little White Bear like she had gone mad.
Little White Bear told her, “Brother Liang says your sister has a stubborn streak, but the moment your name is mentioned, she goes soft.”
My sister was such a bright child; she understood everything in an instant.
She jumped from the sixteenth floor.
The sixteenth floor. I remember her once pointing at a high-rise and telling me, “Sis, one day I’m going to make sure you live in a place like that.”
I had hugged her and said, “Then I’m counting on you.”
She jumped without a moment’s hesitation. Before she did, she sent me a text.
It said: “Sis, I can’t be a burden to you anymore.”
I lost my mind when I heard the news.
At the time, the school claimed my sister suffered from depression, easily brushing the whole thing under the rug.
I knelt at the school gates, holding up a white protest banner. Liang Jiao dragged me away, saying, “Don’t embarrass me out here.”
Back then, Liang Jiao didn’t care at all.
He said, “Your sister is dead. Just focus on being good to me from now on.”
I was driven mad with rage. For the first time, I lunged at him and bit him as hard as I could. Hissing in pain, Liang Jiao kicked me aside.
I lay on the ground, wailing. Afraid that I had truly snapped, Liang Jiao tried to comfort me. “The dead can’t come back to life. You have to look forward.”
To appease my frantic state, Liang Jiao helped me look into the matter.
It was Little White Bear’s doing.
Liang Jiao had sent the video of me to Little White Bear like a trophy. That was how she was able to show it to my sister.
Liang Jiao had his people pin Little White Bear down.
But what was the point?
My sister, who would share even a small piece of chicken cutlet with me;
My sister, who was so afraid of being a burden that she refused to buy a computer despite being a computer science major, choosing instead to use the ones in the library;
My sister, who lied to me during summer break, saying she was staying at school to study when she was actually working a part-time job;
She was dead.
