Chapter 3

That girl threw a fit, crying and screaming, but I ignored her.

I pressured the counselor until he agreed to move my sister to a different dorm. Once the move was finalized, I gave my sister a few more words of advice and headed home. It wasn’t until I got back that I realized my knee had bled so much it was stuck to my pants.

The wound had fused with the fabric. When I peeled it away, the pain made my teeth chatter.

I sloppily dabbed on some alcohol and ointment before falling fast asleep.

In the middle of the night, I was jolted awake by a loud, frantic pounding on my door.

I lived in an urban village where rent was only three hundred yuan a month. My landlord’s family lived right across from me, so I assumed it was just the landlord looking for me.

But when I opened the door, three men appeared. They were quick and efficient, covering my mouth and pinning me down before I could react.

I caught a scent similar to medical alcohol, and then everything went black.

When I woke up, I was in a filthy warehouse surrounded by dusty machinery and junk.

A man sat before me, legs crossed, his collar open to reveal his chest. His sword-like eyebrows were arched high, and his left eyebrow had a small notch in it. “Cheng Dongdong, you hit my girlfriend. Do you have any idea who I am?”

At the time, I didn’t know who he was. I just talked back stubbornly. “I hit her, so what? You gonna hit me back?”

I had no idea that he was Liang Jiao, the wealthiest and most powerful young master in the entire city.

It wasn’t even that he liked his girlfriend that much; he just suddenly felt like tormenting someone.

And that someone, unfortunately, was me.

That day, he asked me, “Which hand did you use to hit Xiongxiong?”

Before I could speak, his leather shoe slammed down onto my palm. I let out a scream of agony.

He smoked a cigarette, his brow raised as if he were admiring the scenery, while his foot ground ruthlessly into my hand.

I was trembling from the pain, but I stubbornly refused to beg for mercy.

“You’ve got spirit, don’t you?” Seeing me gritting my teeth and breaking into a cold sweat, he casually pressed his glowing cigarette butt against my forehead.

With a hiss, I felt as if a hole had been burned into my skull.

The pain was so intense I wanted to roll around on the floor.

“You’re quite the tough nut. I wonder if your sister is as brave as you are.”

The moment he mentioned my sister, I crumbled.

My sister was afraid of pain; I wasn’t.

I couldn’t let her suffer. It was my own fault for being so impulsive. Why did I have to hit her?

I fell to my knees, trembling, and began slamming my head against the floor.

“Sir, it’s my fault. I apologize. Please, don’t go after my sister. This is all on me.”

I spoke with a shaky voice, my head hitting the ground repeatedly. My brain was buzzing, but I had only one thought.

I had to protect my sister.

“Fine, I won’t go after your sister. But I haven’t gotten all my anger out yet.” The man pulled me up, a cunning smile playing on his lips.

“If you can make it to the end without crying, I’ll let your sister go.”

He clapped his hands, and the three men surrounded me.

I’ve forgotten how I survived that day.

I remember crying. I remember writhing on the ground like a fish on a chopping block.

I remember being beaten. So much blood poured from my nose that I could smell the copper at first, but eventually, I couldn’t smell anything at all.

They were truly brutal when it came to hitting women.

When my hand was crushed under a leather shoe, I didn’t cry.

When they grabbed my hair and slapped me, I didn’t cry.

When they twisted my arms back with all their might, I still didn’t cry.

Liang Jiao grew bored. “This is no fun. She won’t even cry. Bring her sister here so we can deal with them together.”

In an instant, I burst into tears.

Tears mixed with blood and dirt as they fell to the floor. I lunged forward and clung to Liang Jiao’s leg. “I’m sorry! I was wrong! Please, I’m begging you, leave my sister alone!”
