Chapter 1

Zhou Yan was a top-tier genius singer who had burst onto the scene at eighteen. He took the Mandopop world by storm with his hit song, “Listen, Flowers Bloom.”

Shortly after, he went abroad for further studies. He returned at the age of twenty with a new album, and his popularity quickly swept across the entire country.

He was about to hold a concert at the Bird’s Nest, and his fans were busily preparing their support projects.

“I want to go to Zhou Yan’s concert so badly.”

In the hospital, Qiqi, the girl in the neighboring bed, clutched her phone and wailed, “But I can’t get tickets at all. If I don’t see his concert this time, I won’t have another chance in this life.”

She was only twelve, but when she said she wouldn’t have another chance, no one laughed at her.

Everyone staying in this ward lived day by day, never knowing if they would see tomorrow.

After her father walked in carrying her meal, she quickly stuffed her phone under her pillow.

Once she finished eating, she squeezed onto my bed and whispered, “Sis, you mustn’t tell my dad. I was just venting. The tickets are hard to get and expensive. I’ll just watch the concert videos when the time comes.”

“You like Zhou Yan that much?” I ruffled her short hair.

She said dejectedly, “Zhou Yan’s songs are so powerful. Every time I finish chemotherapy, listening to his music makes it feel like it doesn’t hurt as much.”

As she spoke, she enthusiastically began to pitch everything about Zhou Yan to me.

Qiqi leaned in with a gossipy look. “This concert is also his twenty-fourth birthday. He said before that he planned to get married at twenty-four, so I wonder if there will be any surprises at this show. Sigh, actually, we fans have been mentally prepared for a long time. It’s not like any of us could ever marry him anyway.”

Qiqi opened her fan group chat. Messages were flooding in, and fans who had managed to snag tickets were celebrating in the group.

“Sis, let me tell you a secret.” Qiqi leaned close to my ear and whispered, “I think Zhou Yan and Qu Xiaofu are definitely going to announce their relationship this time.”

Seeing her acting like such a little know-it-all, I couldn’t help but smile. “How would you know? Where are you getting all this news?”

Qiqi gave a proud huff. “I’m a veteran member of the fan group. We have our own sources. Back then, Qu Xiaofu went abroad to study with him and they returned to the country together. They’re inseparable.”

“Qiqi, it’s time for chemo.” After the nurse walked in, the girl left, looking wilted.

Not long after, Qiqi’s father walked over somewhat awkwardly, carrying a bag of oranges.

He looked at me twice, seemingly unsure of how to start the conversation.

Qiqi’s father worked as a delivery rider. He was an honest, hardworking man of few words.

Asking for a favor was clearly a difficult thing for him.

“I’ll find a way to get concert tickets for Qiqi,” I said proactively, taking the oranges with a gentle smile. “Let’s just consider it a surprise for her.”

The wrinkles at the corners of the man’s eyes smoothed out instantly. He said hurriedly, “Thank you, thank you so much. I… I only asked because I knew you used to work at an entertainment company. Just tell me how much it costs when the time comes.”

I sat alone on my hospital bed for a while before sending a WeChat message to Zhou Yan.

“Zhou Yan, can you save two tickets for me?”

“Little Mute, why don’t you go out and ask around? Who on earth gives tickets to their ex-girlfriend?”

Zhou Yan replied almost instantly, his petty nature on full display between the lines.
