Chapter 1

In the darkness, I scrambled off him as fast as I could.

I clutched my chest tightly.

“Who are you?!”

I lowered my voice, staring at the dark silhouette before me in a panic.

Soon, a deep, cool voice responded.

“Pei Ze.”

I froze at the mention of that name.

He was Jiang Chen’s roommate.

I had seen him a few times when I came to visit Jiang Chen.

My impression of him was that he was cold and taciturn, someone who didn’t seem very approachable.

Every time we met, we did nothing more than exchange a brief nod; we hadn’t even shared a greeting.

Thinking about what had just happened, my face flushed as I pressed him, “What are you doing in Jiang Chen’s room?”

“Borrowing a charger.”

His answer was simple.

But I was freaking out.

At this moment, the fabric on my body was pitifully sparse.

A lone man and woman in a pitch-black room together…

If Jiang Chen walked in and saw this, I’d never be able to explain myself.

In my desperation, I grabbed my discarded clothes and my phone, then dove into the wardrobe.

“Don’t let Jiang Chen find me. Please.”

I whispered my plea to Pei Ze.

Pei Ze fell silent for two seconds before walking over to close the wardrobe door for me.

At that exact moment, the bedroom door was pulled open.

Jiang Chen walked in.

He flipped the switch, and the room was instantly flooded with light.

“Huh? Pei Ze, what are you doing in my room?”

Pei Ze picked up the charger from the desk. “Just borrowing a charger.”

“Oh.”

Jiang Chen gave a casual response, his tone sounding normal.

“By the way, have you seen Wen Ruan? She told me she was coming over.”

“Haven’t seen her.”

My back broke out in a nervous sweat.

Today was our first anniversary.

Before leaving work, I had sent Jiang Chen a message saying I had a surprise for him tonight.

He had to work overtime, so he was going to be home late.

That gave me plenty of time to come over and get ready.

I had planned to present myself as a gift the moment he walked through the door.

I never expected such a ridiculous mix-up.

“Something’s wrong with the computer in my room. Can you come take a look for me?”

“Sure.”

Once Pei Ze led Jiang Chen to his own room, I hurried out, changed into my clothes, grabbed my things, and slipped away quietly.
