Chapter 9
That voice…
I looked up in disbelief.
It was her, just as I suspected.
The woman who hit me before, and then got beaten up by my mom.
Truly, enemies cross paths on a narrow road.
There were about seven or eight people across from us, all covered in blood and looking disheveled. And they were definitely not the same group from last time. Looks like she’s found new allies.
In this environment, I fear humans more than Zombies.
I couldn’t help but swallow nervously.
Her face grew increasingly twisted as she stared at me, “Hmph, you made my life miserable. Let’s see who comes to save you this time!”
After saying that, she wrapped her arm around the man next to her, putting on a petite and delicate act. Her voice was so shrill it made my scalp tingle: “Brother Hei Ba, it was this Zombie who almost bit me. You have to avenge me, wuwuwu…”
Lady, when did I ever bite anyone? You were the one who almost beat me to death!
The man wasn’t tall, with dark skin and a long scar across his face-a real tough guy by the looks of him. “Just a Zombie. Didn’t we deal with a whole bunch just now? Watch how I get revenge for you!”
Qi Mubai was right-there really was another group. But I didn’t expect it to be this old enemy.
I was so scared my legs were shaking.
I glanced at Qi Mubai behind me, who stood there with his hands in his pockets, calm as ever. I gritted my teeth and stepped in front of him.
These people were definitely not good news. Anyway, I’m a Zombie now. I don’t feel pain. If I die, so be it. I just hope Qi Mubai can make it back and take care of my mom.
The thought of never seeing my mom again brought tears to my eyes.
Hei Ba noticed what I did and was stunned, then exclaimed, “This Zombie…can cry?”
His underling added from behind, “That’s not all, Boss-look, she’s protecting that pretty boy behind her…”
“Hahahahahaha…”
“I’ve never seen such a funny Zombie! Why don’t we catch her? Maybe she’ll be useful for something…”
“I think she looks pretty good. Why not… hehe, I’ve slept with all kinds of people in my life, but never a Zombie…”
The more I heard, the more frightened I became. I knew I couldn’t survive this. Holding back tears, I turned around, grabbed Qi Mubai’s hand, and shouted in my heart: “I’ll hold them off, you run! You have to live on. I can’t feel pain, I’m not afraid. And don’t tell my mom I died-just say I got lost…”
Qi Mubai lowered his gaze, expressionless, silently watching me.
“Shut up, all of you!” Hei Ba barked, raising his gun and aiming at me. “What’s the point of talking so much? One shot is all it takes.”
I planted myself firmly in front of Qi Mubai, squeezed my eyes shut, and didn’t move a muscle.
Bang-a gunshot, but instead of being hit, I heard a scream.
I opened my eyes to see Hei Ba clutching his leg, howling in pain. He’d been shot. I was stunned, but then I heard a soft, sighing voice at my ear-the boy’s voice: “Are you all…courting death?”
It sounded pretty badass, to be honest.
But is this really the time to act cool?!
While that group was still stunned, I yelled at Qi Mubai in my heart: “Why aren’t you running?! I can’t run fast, pick me up and go!”
Honestly, if I didn’t have to die, I really wouldn’t want to.
Qi Mubai: “…”
And then he really did pick me up and run.
A handsome guy and a beautiful girl-it should’ve been a dreamy scene out of a TV drama, with a super cool, romantic princess carry. At the very least, a piggyback would do. But nope-he just tossed me over his shoulder and ran off, just like my mom would.
Me: “…”
Qi Mubai always looked gentle and weak, but I never expected he could run with someone slung over his shoulder without breaking a sweat. He’d already left that group in the dust and wasn’t even out of breath-like an iron man.
I was honestly shocked, though his shoulders were much bonier than my mom’s, making my stomach super uncomfortable. I figured we’d lost them by now, so I tapped his back to signal him to put me down.
Qi Mubai obliged, crossed his arms, and looked at me. “What? Just realized how heavy you are?”
Heh. Screw you!
He frowned. “Who taught you to curse like that?”
None of your business!
Qi Mubai: “…”
We got home without a hitch.
My mom beamed at our haul, “Xiao Bai, you’re so capable! What do you want to eat? Auntie will cook it for you!”
Me: “…”
And me? So I just went out for nothing? Besides, all of this is ready to eat-does it even need cooking?
My mom ignored me, grabbed two cans, and hurried into the kitchen. Three minutes later, she came out with two plates. I glanced at them-she’d just heated up whatever was inside.
I was about to pick up my chopsticks when my mom said, “You don’t need to eat anymore. Xiao Bai says Zombies can’t eat food. If you do, you’ll just throw it up. Aren’t you silly? Didn’t you know that yourself…?”
I fell silent.
You think I didn’t want to say anything? I did, but all I could do was stammer and nothing would come out. If I took too long, you’d hit me. Do you know how much that hurts a Little Zombie like me?
Even if, for argument’s sake, I told you, would you believe me?
You’d probably just think I was making excuses to avoid eating. Granted, I used to come up with a lot of excuses and lost your trust. But seriously, at a time like this, I’m already a Zombie-what would I gain by lying to you?
You just believe Xiao Bai!
Extremely disgruntled, I stormed back to my room and made sure to slam the door on my way in.
Hmph!

Kiss the Zombie Girl
I am a Zombie.
Early in the morning, my mom burst into my room, yanked open the curtains, and, wearing an apron and brandishing a spatula, shouted at me: “Still sleeping? Stayed up...
