Chapter 7
Chapter 7
I was forced to return home with He Xiuyuan.
Once inside our marital home, he handed me his phone. “Look through it yourself. I haven’t contacted her once since we broke up.”
I didn’t take it. Instead, I let out a cold laugh. “Does that prove you don’t still have feelings for her?”
He Xiuyuan didn’t answer.
He gripped his phone so tightly that his knuckles protruded, turning white from the strain.
After a long silence, he opened WeChat with a dark expression and searched for Qi Yue’s name.
The most recent message was in their old class group chat.
He had written: “I’m getting married.”
His classmates, thinking they were on the same page, asked:
“Why didn’t Qi Yue tell us?”
He replied: “It’s not to her.”
The group chat went silent instantly.
A few minutes later, Qi Yue tagged him: “Congratulations! I definitely can’t miss your wedding.”
He didn’t refuse her.
He even replied with a “Sure.”
On our wedding day, Qi Yue showed up. She sat in the audience wearing a white lace dress, looking every bit like a bride herself.
Standing beside me during the vows, He Xiuyuan choked up several times, barely able to keep his emotions in check.
At the time, my best friend had looked at me with envy. “Yuanyuan, you really married the right guy. He Xiuyuan actually cried during the vows. He’s so devoted.”
Thinking back on it now, I couldn’t help but want to laugh.
He Xiuyuan’s acting was truly superb.
Everyone thought that while he was taking his vows, his mind was filled with the years we had spent together.
But he was clearly worried about Qi Yue, who was sitting in the crowd, crying her eyes out.
“Do you see clearly now? I told you, there’s nothing going on between Qi Yue and me,” He Xiuyuan’s voice pulled me back to reality.
I closed my eyes, about to tell him to get lost, when his childhood friend called.
On the other end of the line, his friend’s voice was frantic. “Ah Yuan, Qi Yue’s been admitted to the hospital.”
He Xiuyuan’s body stiffened. He looked at me with a complicated expression. “I have to go out for a bit.”
We weren’t even divorced yet.
How could he go see another woman so brazenly?
I grabbed his arm like I’d gone mad. “He Xiuyuan, I’m not letting you go.”
He Xiuyuan pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration, his tone laced with reproach. “Can’t you be sensible like you used to be? Why have you become so unreasonable?”
I turned and threw the bedroom door open, telling him to get the hell out.
