Chapter 94
Chapter 94
Night fell over the Fairy Tale Hospital. The flora of the Rear Garden was bathed in moonlight, and a rustling sound emanated from the thickets.
Everything was silent, save for the occasional chirp of insects.
A sneaky figure appeared in the Third Floor corridor, which should have been deserted.
Tu Nan had been hiding in the Storage Room ever since she finished her shift, waiting for a full two hours before she dared to venture out.
At this moment, the hospital was deathly quiet; she could even hear the sound of her own breathing.
She involuntarily held her breath, fearing that any delay might bring trouble. She walked quickly to the door of the Archives Room, took out the key she had stolen from the Head Nurse, and inserted it into the keyhole.
With a gentle twist of her wrist, the lock let out a click, and the door opened before her.
Tu Nan glanced left and right before quickly slipping inside.
The Archives Room was filled with a stale, musty scent. She lit a candle and held it up to observe her surroundings.
Rows of bookshelves appeared before her, neatly arranged and packed with files. Each shelf was marked with a year for easy reference.
York’s file should be from the last two years. Tu Nan started searching from the most recent records. After searching through about one row of shelves, she finally found the file with York’s name on it.
Tu Nan couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement. She took a deep breath, pulled the file out, and impatiently flipped it open right there on the spot.
The file contained a detailed record of when York entered the Fairy Tale Hospital, the progression of his condition after admission, and several incidents surrounding him.
According to the timeline, York had been at the hospital for a full five years. Tu Nan raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised.
During his first year, many strange things happened around York. Without exception, the conditions of every girl who had contact with him worsened; the most severe cases even involved self-harm and suicide.
What was strange, however, was that not a single person came forward to testify that York was involved in these incidents. The individuals involved remained silent, even repeatedly emphasizing that York had nothing to do with what happened and that he was innocent.
Because of this, the hospital could not punish York and could only try its best to limit his contact with other women.
However, contact between nurses and patients was unavoidable.
Every nurse who had contact with York ended up with a rather unfortunate fate.
Tu Nan searched through the dense text for any sign of Yi Weichun, finally finding the name in a record of an incident from a year ago.
A year ago, Yi Weichun entered the Fairy Tale Hospital and began serving as York’s ward nurse.
If the personality of Yi Weichun in He Ling’s dream was accurate, Tu Nan speculated that she must have been a warm and sunny girl-someone who remained positive and never gave up even in difficult situations.
When she first started as York’s nurse, she might have been deceived by the man’s handsome appearance, believing he wasn’t dangerous.
In reality, however, York was like a poisonous mushroom in the jungle that used a harmless exterior as camouflage. Those who knew him would keep a respectful distance, while those who didn’t would be fooled by the mushroom’s appearance and blindly pick the deadly fungus.
The file did not have a detailed record of what happened between them, only covering it with a vague sentence.
[One year ago, Nurse Yi Weichun died a mysterious death, suspected to be related to another Intern Nurse, He Ling.
Only York and He Ling were present at the crime scene. During questioning, He Ling was highly emotional and suffered several breakdowns, making it impossible to conduct an interview.]
Since York already had a notorious track record, everyone believed that York had once again used some sort of means to cause the death of the Intern Nurse.
Strangely, after the incident, neither York nor He Ling received any punishment.
A new Intern Nurse was assigned to York, while He Ling resumed her duties. She had continued working for Fairy Tale Hospital ever since.
According to the records, Yi Weichun died from a fall.
Whether she was pushed or took her own life remained an unsolved mystery to this day.
Tu Nan checked the file twice more with meticulous care. Once she was certain she hadn’t missed any relevant clues, she placed the folder back.
In her estimation, Yi Weichun’s death was likely no accident.
He Ling’s attitude toward Yi Weichun in the various dream sequences was quite intriguing. They clearly had a good relationship, yet why was He Ling’s reaction upon seeing the deceased Yi Weichun one of terror rather than nostalgia?
The words He Ling had shouted at Tu Nan during her emotional outburst suggested a certain level of resentment toward Yi Weichun. This resentment was directed at York; she believed Yi Weichun shouldn’t have accepted the gifts York gave her.
The fragmented clues felt like a massive, tangled ball of yarn, leaving Tu Nan unsure of where to begin unraveling it.
Tu Nan frowned.
Since she was already in the Archives Room, she decided to set aside the final answer for a moment. She would take this opportunity to look through the files of the other patients. It would undoubtedly help her complete her mission after leaving the dream.
Just as she was about to pull out the records for the patients under her care, a strange noise suddenly reached her ears.
The sound was coming from right outside the Archives Room door.
Startled, Tu Nan instinctively blew out her Candle. The Archives Room was instantly plunged into darkness.
A rustling sound became increasingly distinct in the gloom.
She faintly heard the sound of a door Trigger.
The main entrance of the Archives Room was directly opposite the Head Nurse’s office. Had the Head Nurse woken up?
But she had clearly administered enough sedative to last the whole night. How could the creature have woken up so quickly?
Strictly speaking, however, the dosage she had used was intended for a human. As for the Head Nurse, she was an Octopus. And for an Octopus, extricating oneself from a jar wouldn’t be particularly difficult.
Cold sweat trickled down Tu Nan’s forehead.
Even though this was a dream, Tu Nan hadn’t yet discovered the cause of Yi Weichun’s death. She didn’t want to be caught by the Head Nurse so soon.
The Head Nurse’s distinctive gait echoed faintly from outside, sounding like a tolling alarm bell in her ears.
The Head Nurse had excellent vision; in this pitch-black environment, Tu Nan was no match for her.
Tu Nan lightened her footsteps, feeling along the edge of the bookshelf as she retreated inch by inch into a corner.
*Creak-*
The door to the Archives Room was pushed open.
The Head Nurse’s voice, thick with fury, rang out through the darkness.
“I know you’re in here.”
She was absolutely livid. Since becoming the Head Nurse, she had never suffered such a humiliation!
To be stuffed into a jar by some unknown person and even drugged into unconsciousness…
In all her years as an Octopus, this was unprecedented!
She was determined to find this incredibly arrogant person, throw them into the Solitary Confinement Room, and torture them mercilessly!
The Head Nurse’s eyes, each as large as half a fist, flashed with a ghostly light.
“You’re quite good at hide-and-seek, aren’t you?” her voice hissed, a spectral sound that sent an involuntary chill through the dark room.
“Then let’s play a game of hide-and-seek.”
