Chapter 93
Chapter 93
She hauled the jar up to the Third Floor alone. As she had expected, there was hardly anyone around at this hour.
Before moving the jar, Tu Nan had made sure the Head Nurse was currently in the emergency room. With eight tentacles flailing about in all their glory, it was unlikely she would be back anytime soon.
After dragging the jar to the Head Nurse’s Office at the end of the hall, she reached for the handle and gave it a experimental turn. The door opened easily.
The Head Nurse clearly didn’t have the habit of locking her office during work hours, likely because she never imagined anyone would be as bold as Tu Nan.
Tu Nan shot a quick glance around her, moved the jar into the office as fast as she could, and then shut the door.
The Head Nurse’s Office was moderately sized. Aside from the desk, there was a hospital bed for patients or herself to rest on.
She studied the layout of the room. To ensure the Head Nurse would notice the jar immediately, Tu Nan placed it directly by the entrance. The moment the door opened, the jar would be the first thing the Head Nurse saw.
With the jar in place, she now needed to find a hiding spot for herself.
However, looking left and right, there seemed to be nowhere to hide.
Her gaze fell upon the desk against the wall.
Someone could hide under the desk, but that was too dangerous. If the Head Nurse didn’t climb into the jar right away and chose to go to her desk first, Tu Nan would be discovered instantly.
Where would be best?
Behind the curtains?
The curtains weren’t particularly thick. If someone looked closely, it wouldn’t be hard to spot her.
She couldn’t help but feel a bit troubled.
Just as she was wavering, Tu Nan suddenly heard a faint sound from outside the door.
The Head Nurse’s gait was different from others. While most people had distinct footsteps, the Head Nurse used her tentacles to friction against the floor, pushing herself forward. This made her movement very unique and easy to identify.
In an instant, Tu Nan was certain the person outside was the Head Nurse.
There was no more time to hesitate.
The desk was still too risky. After a brief pause, she moved toward the curtains.

The moment the Head Nurse opened the door, the tentacle resting on the handle froze.
Why was there a jar sitting in the middle of her office?
The moment she saw it, her Octopus instincts began to stir within her body. She felt an irrepressible urge to crawl inside immediately and curl her body up within the vessel.
This was an instinct etched into her genes. Even though she wasn’t an ordinary creature that relied solely on instinct, it was still difficult to fight.
However, she wouldn’t be like a low-level octopus and rush in impatiently.
The Head Nurse entered the room, used a tentacle to close the door, and scanned the room with a suspicious gaze.
Someone must have put this jar here while she was away. What was their intention? Knowing she was an Octopus with such a preference, they had still placed such a large jar in her office.
Was it to curry favor with her?
If so, they had chosen the wrong way to go about it.
She let out a cold snort.
The Head Nurse began to pace through the room. The office wasn’t large, and there weren’t many places to hide. She quickly checked every corner and saw no outsiders.
An Octopus’s field of vision was wider than a human’s; almost the entire office was under her surveillance, and nothing seemed amiss. She was highly confident in her eyesight; no one could possibly hide from her gaze.
After a moment’s thought, she walked toward the curtains.
The curtains were currently drawn to the sides, allowing a view of the outside through the window.
To prevent patients from accidentally falling out, all the windows in Fairy Tale Hospital were designed to be very high, and her office was no exception. The bottom of the window was roughly at the level of her neck. To be honest, she had always found this design to be incredibly stupid.
The window faced the dormitory building, offering no scenery to speak of. She gave it a cursory glance before pulling the curtains open with a flourish.
There was no one behind the curtains.
The Head Nurse’s eyes darted around before she casually drew the curtains closed again.
In a corner she hadn’t seen, a pair of hands was gripping the windowsill tightly.
Tu Nan held her breath, not even daring to exhale loudly.
Her hands were forced to bear her entire body weight, her fingertips turning white from the excessive strain. She struggled not to look down; all she could do now was pray that no one would see her.
Fortunately, her luck held out.
The Head Nurse drawing the curtains finally allowed her to breathe a sigh of relief.
Using the strength in her arms, she carefully hoisted herself onto the windowsill and gently opened the window, which she had deliberately left slightly ajar earlier.
Luckily, the Head Nurse hadn’t checked thoroughly. She likely couldn’t imagine that someone would actually dare to hide in such a place right under her nose.
Opening the window as cautiously as possible, Tu Nan peeked through a crack in the curtains into the office.
From this vantage point, she could see the entire office. She hadn’t heard the door open, meaning the Head Nurse hadn’t left the room, yet she was nowhere to be seen.
Looking closely at the jar on the floor, it seemed to be shaking ever so slightly.
As expected, it was an uncontrollable instinct.
She didn’t dare be careless. With every nerve in her body taut, she imagined herself as a nimble Cat, stepping onto the floor with cautious, silent movements.
The lid of the jar was tied to her body with a cord. While keeping her eyes fixed on the jar, Tu Nan untied the lid, the fabric of her clothes making a faint rustling sound.
She was so nervous her scalp felt numb, but fortunately, an Octopus’s hearing is not well-developed. Or perhaps the Head Nurse was too enthralled by this rare experience to notice when another person had entered the office.
Tu Nan gripped the lid with one hand and pulled something from her pocket with the other, clutching it tightly. She took a silent, deep breath, then rushed toward the jar at top speed. She threw the item in her palm inside, then immediately slammed the lid on and screwed it tight.
“Who is it?!” The Head Nurse sensed something was wrong instantly. Her voice, trapped inside the jar, sounded distorted but was still vaguely discernible. “Who’s out there? What are you doing?!”
*Sorry, Head Nurse,* Tu Nan thought to herself.
“Let me out!”
The Head Nurse struggled violently. However, the size of the jar was already a tight fit for her, leaving no extra room. Her ability to struggle was extremely limited.
Tu Nan pressed down firmly on the jar to keep it from thrashing about.
If it fell and made too much noise, it would likely attract unwanted attention.
She counted silently in her head. The Head Nurse’s struggles inside the jar grew weaker and weaker until, finally, she went silent.
This was thanks to the potion she had tossed in before closing the lid.
In a hospital, finding something that could knock a person unconscious was even easier than finding a jar. With such a high dosage, it should be enough to keep the Head Nurse asleep until tomorrow. By then, someone would naturally find her.
Tu Nan stood up and breathed a sigh of relief. One major problem was finally resolved. Now, she just needed to find the key to the Archives Room and wait until nightfall.
She walked over to the desk and began searching. She had expected finding the key to be time-consuming, but to her surprise, the Head Nurse had gathered all the keys together and had even thoughtfully labeled them.
She took the key to the Archives Room, tucked it away, and let out a soft breath.
If luck was on her side, she might be able to catch a glimpse of the truth behind Yi Weichun’s cause of death tonight.
