Chapter 71
Chapter 71
“You know how to put this together?” Daisy glanced at her, then grabbed her hand in surprise. “That’s wonderful! I was just worrying about it.”
Tu Nan was new here and unfamiliar with the environment; doing a favor for an NPC would certainly do her no harm.
“Of course.” Tu Nan nodded and pointed toward the entrance of the information desk. “May I come in?”
Daisy pulled her inside with ecstatic joy, pointing at the internal organs scattered across the table. “Then I’ll leave it to you.”
Tu Nan picked up one of the organs. It felt Weird to the touch-soft and ice-cold.
Keeping her eyes downcast and her expression neutral, she quickly reassembled the puzzle on the table.
Daisy watched from the side, clicking her tongue in wonder, her eyes sparkling. “You’re amazing! You’ll definitely pass the training!”
“Thank you.” Tu Nan placed the final piece into its corresponding position. “There, all done.”
Daisy clapped her hands happily. “Now Hans won’t have to worry about his organs being out of place.”
She glanced at the name on Tu Nan’s onboarding form. “Your name is Tu Nan? It’s a strange name, just like Dr. Tang’s.”
Tu Nan’s smile remained unchanged. “By Dr. Tang, do you mean Tang Yuan? Is she at the hospital right now?”
“Yes.” Daisy nodded. “Dr. Tang is out on a house call. She isn’t at the hospital very often.”
Tu Nan nodded thoughtfully, then asked as if casually, “Once someone becomes a permanent staff member, is it possible to not be at the hospital often?”
“You only need to clock in once a month,” Daisy said with a smile. “Our hospital is very humane. Otherwise, why would so many people want to become official employees here? The competition is incredibly fierce.”
“But I have high hopes for you.” Daisy patted Tu Nan on the shoulder. “You’re a good person. I’ll put in a few good words for you with the Head Nurse.”
Only then did Tu Nan give a genuine smile. “Then thank you very much. I’m new here, so I’ll be counting on you to look after me.”
“No problem!” Daisy patted her chest. “I’ll take you to report for duty right now.”
Tu Nan followed behind Daisy. Along the way, they encountered many employees wearing hospital uniforms, every one of whom greeted Daisy.
Daisy was clearly very popular.
The Head Nurse’s office was at the end of the corridor on the third floor of the hospital.
“Head Nurse, I’ve brought the newcomer to you.” Daisy knocked on the door and pushed it open.
Tu Nan followed her inside and finally saw the Head Nurse’s true form.
She froze.
The Head Nurse was a giant octopus with eight legs. When they entered, two of her legs were giving a patient an injection, while another two were writing a report.
Tu Nan stood rooted to the spot, unable to react for a moment.
“The newcomer?” Amidst her busy schedule, the Octopus Head Nurse turned to glance at her. One of her free legs snatched the onboarding form from Daisy’s hand to look it over.
“I remember this.” Her voice sounded cold. “Recommended by Tang Yuan.”
“Yes, yes.” Daisy looked at the eight legs with envy. “Miss Tu Nan is very warm-hearted. You’ll definitely like her.”
The Octopus Head Nurse finished the injection, and one leg nimbly curled around an alcohol cotton ball to press it against the wound.
“You can go back now. Come back at this same time tomorrow for another shot, and you’ll be ready for discharge soon.”
The patient turned around and gratefully grasped one of the Octopus Head Nurse’s legs. “Thank you, thank you! I’ll be sure to send a commemorative banner!”
“That won’t be necessary.” The Head Nurse’s free legs waved about. “I already have so many banners here that I have no room for them. If you must send something, you’d be better off sending some pens.”
“Right, of course.” The patient nodded repeatedly. “I’ll go back and buy two wholesale crates of pens to send to you!”
Daisy looked at them with longing.
“What a beautiful sight,” she said, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. “Such a harmonious doctor-patient relationship.”
“Uh…” For once, Tu Nan found herself at a loss for words. She whispered tentatively, “The staff here… of course, I don’t mean anything by it… I just mean…”
“I know what you want to ask.” Daisy’s smile quickly returned. “The Octopus Head Nurse was specially recruited by the Dean. She’s a close friend of the Sea Witch and learned a lot of witch-medical arts from her.”
“You know, octopuses are famously intelligent, and they’re so capable.” Daisy looked at the Head Nurse’s eight legs with envy. “If I had eight legs, I’m sure the Dean would value me more too. Then I wouldn’t have to just stand in the lobby.”
At this, she let out a melancholy sigh.
“Fortunately, the Dean hasn’t dismissed me for being useless.” Her mood shifted in an instant, and she laughed brightly again. “Fairy Tale Hospital is so great because of the Dean’s presence!”
“So that’s how it is.” Tu Nan looked up, casting a quick glance at the Head Nurse.
She used two legs to stand firmly, but while walking, she needed four legs to push off the ground, supporting her body as she glided forward.
In other words, when she stood still, she could use six legs to do six different things simultaneously.
No wonder she was the Head Nurse; she was indeed capable.
“Tu Nan, right?” The Head Nurse held an employment form with one leg and looked her up and down. “Since Dr. Tang Yuan recommended you, you must have some skill.”
“Miss Tu Nan is very impressive,” Daisy praised. “She even helped me put Hans’s internal organs back together!”
The Head Nurse scanned her critically once more, her circular pupils shifting.
“In that case, you’ll start as an intern nurse. You’ll be in charge of two wards.”
She lowered her head, scribbled something quickly on the employment form, and tucked it into a drawer.
Tu Nan’s sharp eyes caught sight of a thick stack of employment forms already sitting in that drawer.
“Go to the Logistics Department to collect two sets of staff uniforms and your ID badge, then come back to see me,” the Head Nurse said coldly.
“Alright.” Tu Nan nodded and asked humbly, “This is my first time interning at a hospital. Are there any rules and regulations I should be aware of?”
The Head Nurse gave her a look of satisfaction.
“Very good. It’s been a long time since I’ve met an intern as cautious as you. As a nurse, caution is an essential quality. Only then can we better serve the patients.” The Head Nurse pulled a sheet of paper from the drawer and handed it to her.
“I was originally going to wait until you returned to give this to you, but since you want to know now, here it is.”
Tu Nan was amazed to find that the paper was held firmly by the suckers on the Head Nurse’s leg, yet when she reached out to take it, it came away quite easily.
The Head Nurse could control the suction of her legs at will.
“I’ll take you to the Logistics Department,” Daisy said enthusiastically from the side. “It just so happens that my ID badge is getting a bit old, and I wanted to ask them for a replacement.”
Tu Nan did not refuse her kindness. She nodded, and after bidding farewell to the Head Nurse, the two of them left the Head Nurse’s office together.
“The Logistics Department is also on the Third Floor,” Daisy said, leading the way. “This floor is where the staff rest and work.”
There weren’t many people in the corridor at the moment, just a few here and there. Suddenly, Tu Nan heard a buzzing sound. She instinctively turned toward the source of the noise.
A swarm of bees was charging straight at her.
