Chapter 66
Chapter 66
“Based on Lilith’s answers, we can already piece together a rough story.”
“For some unknown reason, a massive fire broke out in the Manor. The Madam was burned to death, while Lilith survived for some reason. Because the Madam couldn’t let go of her daughter, she became a Weird and continued to live in the Manor with Lilith, constantly searching for new Hearts for her. We are the new ‘medicinal catalysts’ the Madam found for her.”
“Next, we can focus on finding the finer details of the truth,” Fu Zhixing said in a low voice. “Although I don’t know Lilith’s intention for playing this game with us, this is clearly a good opportunity. If used properly, we might be able to clear the instance immediately.”
“The power of the ‘Sheep’ is getting stronger. I have a feeling that if we can’t leave the Manor tonight, the bedroom will no longer be a sanctuary for us,” Tu Nan said softly.
She couldn’t help but look back at Lilith. Her small body was curled up in the wheelchair, looking somewhat lonely.
From her angle, she could see Lilith’s slightly desolate profile. Her head was lowered slightly, and she was absentmindedly stroking Xiao Bai’s body in her arms, lost in thought.
Forced to keep eating the Hearts of her own kind just to stay alive… was Lilith truly happy?
“The order of our questions will change in the next round.” Fu Zhixing looked at Ruth. “You can ask your questions based on our questions and Lilith’s answers. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.”
Ruth bit her lower lip hard and nodded vigorously.
Five minutes was simply too short.
“The second round begins,” Lilith announced mercilessly.
She looked at Fu Zhixing. “You are first this round.”
Fu Zhixing had already thought of his question, but he still stalled until the last second to give those behind him as much time as possible to think.
“The fire in the Manor was not a natural disaster, but a man-made one, wasn’t it?”
A look of resentment appeared on Lilith’s face.
This was the first time Tu Nan had seen such a vivid emotion on her face, one that was almost entirely undisguised.
“Yes.” Lilith’s voice was filled with hatred.
It was clear that she hated the arsonist to the extreme.
Perhaps this game was a bit too cruel for Lilith.
But why did she still want to play this game with them? She had even gone as far as to specifically send George away.
Fu Zhixing’s question caused Lilith’s emotions to fluctuate. Her face turned slightly pale, and her hands on the table clenched tightly, her knuckles turning white.
“Have some water.” Seeing this, Tu Nan hurriedly handed a glass of water to her.
Lilith took the glass from her and took a slow sip.
“Thank you.” She gave Tu Nan a gentle smile.
[Lilith’s current Favorability toward you: 50 (She has a good impression of you)]
Tu Nan paused for a moment and shook her head slightly. “You’re welcome.”
“It’s your turn.” Lilith set down the water glass, her beautiful eyes looking straight at her, seemingly having regained her composure.
“Time in the Manor… it’s been in a loop, hasn’t it?”
As soon as this question was asked, even Fu Zhixing looked over in surprise.
Lilith broke into a smile, and her eyes even sparkled with an unusual light.
“Yes.” She opened her lips, the corners of her mouth curling upward uncontrollably.
[Lilith’s current Favorability toward you: 80 (She likes you very much!)]
Tu Nan had actually thought about this question for a long time before making such a bold conjecture. Even before asking, she felt she was being fanciful.
But…
How could the layers of old and new corpses in the Sheep Pen at night be explained?
Even if the Sheep ate the bodies every night, the sheer number of corpses was still startlingly high.
Some had clearly been dead for a long time, while others were quite “fresh.”
The “Sheep” in the Manor entered the Mansion every midnight, and their power grew stronger with each passing day.
If that was the case, why hadn’t these Sheep killed the culprit responsible for their deaths yet?
She had once thought it was perhaps because the Madam’s power was greater than theirs.
However, Tang Yuan had once said something to her in passing.
She said that the Madam stayed in her room all night.
Why was Tang Yuan so certain? Unless the Madam had a reason why she *had* to stay in her room.
This entire Manor belonged to the Madam. What reason could there be for her to be forced to stay in her room at night? The only logical reason seemed to be that she, too, was hiding from these “Sheep.”
The room was almost unable to hold them back anymore. Tonight at the earliest, or tomorrow night at the latest, the Weird would break down that door.
She truly couldn’t imagine how the Madam intended to resist these increasingly powerful “Sheep.”
Even more, she couldn’t fathom why Lilith wanted to play this game with them. It didn’t seem to offer her any benefit at all.
Unless she also wanted to end all of this sooner, having long since grown weary of this unchanging life.
Thinking of it this way, the phrase Lilith had given them at the very beginning-that this was like a Mobius strip that would never end-was also a subtle hint.
“Your turn.” Lilith looked at Jenny, her tone noticeably lighter.
Jenny was still reeling from the shock of Tu Nan’s previous question and didn’t react immediately.
“Uh…” she stammered, “Is the Madam going to cut out our Hearts today?”
“Yes,” Lily replied curtly. “Next.”
“…”
Ruth became even more flustered upon hearing this answer. She looked at Tu Nan and the others in terror, her mouth hanging open, unable to say a word.
“You cannot seek help from others,” Lilith said with a smile.
“Can someone whose Heart has been cut out be resurrected?” Ruth blurted out.
This question probably couldn’t be answered with a simple “yes” or “no.”
If a person whose Heart was removed became a Sheep, how would that count?
“That question…” Lilith paused. “I don’t know how to answer that.”
“If you’re asking whether they are still the same person after being resurrected, then my answer is… no.”
Ruth sighed. This answer was within her expectations.
“Then this round of the game is over,” Lilith announced.
The group immediately huddled together to discuss.
“Tell us about the ‘cycle.’ How did you figure it out?” Fu Zhixing asked, looking at Tu Nan.
“Yeah, you gave me a real fright,” Jenny added.
Even Ruth looked up at Tu Nan.
“It’s a long story and time is tight. I’ll explain after the game is over,” Tu Nan said calmly, her voice steady. “I believe Lilith is the key to us clearing this.
“She might even be our ally.”
The others nodded.
“The next round is the final round. Perhaps we’ll be able to leave soon,” Tu Nan let out a soft breath. “I hope my guess isn’t wrong.”
