chapter 59
The Rose Madam accompanied Lilith outside, leaving the fourth floor completely deserted.
Tu Nan quietly made her way up to the fourth floor.
There were only two bedrooms on the fourth floor, and it was easy to distinguish between the Rose Madam’s room and Lilith’s. One of the bedroom doors was surrounded by an unmistakable scent of roses.
It was undoubtedly the Rose Madam’s room.
She took out the Universal Key that Fu Zhixing had slipped to her before leaving, inserted it into the Lock, and opened the door.
The room was pitch dark, all the curtains drawn, not a trace of light. She couldn’t even find where the Candle was.
Helpless, Tu Nan had to grab a Candle from the sconce in the corridor outside.
With the Candle in hand, she was finally able to glimpse the scene inside the room.
For someone of the Rose Madam’s status, the room’s decor was so simple it was almost shabby. In the corner stood a desk, scattered with books and newspapers. Aside from that, there was only a bed, a table, chairs, and stools-almost no other furniture.
The bed was perfectly made, not a wrinkle in sight.
Time was short; she had no chance to observe the details. She set the Candle on the table and immediately began searching the room for what she needed.
The scent of Rose in the Rose Madam’s room was so strong it made her feel dizzy.
Such private items might be kept at the bedside, but the nightstand was completely bare.
Frowning, unwilling to give up, she walked to the bed and carefully searched, but still found nothing.
Tu Nan looked up and suddenly noticed a giant Mural hanging above the headboard.
If, as she suspected, these Murals were meant to monitor them, why would the Rose Madam hang such a Mural in her own room?
She frowned again and moved to the desk, hoping to find something useful.
The books on the desk were strewn about haphazardly. She picked one up; its pages were slightly curled, clearly from frequent reading.
Tu Nan glanced at the title. Judging by the name, it seemed to be a book about diseases.
Perhaps this book held the answers she sought.
She flipped through several chapters quickly, her frown deepening.
It wasn’t a medical book at all, but a book about witchcraft.
The book described in detail that to cure human diseases, one must borrow a healthy body. For example, if someone had heart disease, they could use another person’s heart as a Catalyst, have the patient take medicine made with the healthy heart, and the original heart would be restored, curing the disease naturally.
Of course, not just anyone’s heart could be used as medicine. The Medicine Person whose body was used had to share the exact same birthday as the patient to achieve the effect of “completion.”
The timing of taking the medicine was also crucial-it had to be taken precisely at Midnight on the Full Moon Night for the medicine to have its greatest effect.
It was complete nonsense.
But what unsettled Tu Nan was that many pages of the book were heavily annotated, and the page corners were clearly worn from frequent handling, even yellowed.
She put down the book and picked up several newspapers from the desk.
Some of these newspapers were very old, the paper brittle and worn, while others were in better condition.
[January 20, 1981]
A very wealthy and beautiful lady arrived in Rose Town. She purchased a large plot of land outside Rose Town and built a Manor on it.
After the Manor was completed, the townspeople called it Rose Manor and referred to the wealthy lady as the Rose Madam.
Rose Madam brought several servants and her lovely Young Daughter, and posted a recruitment notice in the small town, seeking servants for her Manor.
[February 22, 1989]
Rose Manor was struck by a fire for unknown reasons, and several people in the Manor perished in the blaze.
Strangely, people did not find the corpse of Rose Madam’s Young Daughter in the ashes after the fire.
[October 8, 1992]
Three years later, the once-destroyed Rose Manor suddenly welcomed a new Manor Owner, who was warm and hospitable, inviting many people to visit the Manor.
However, those who entered the Manor never came out again.
The relatives of the missing people went to the Manor seeking answers, but to their surprise, the outskirts of the Manor were shrouded in thick fog for unknown reasons, and people lost their way to enter the Manor. No one could ever find Rose Manor again.
Perhaps it still exists, but rumors spread throughout Rose Town. Some claimed to have seen the ghosts of their deceased loved ones in the mist, so people began to move away from Rose Town.
Whether Rose Manor truly exists has become an unsolvable mystery.
Rose Manor, had it really suffered a fire?
But why had she never seen any traces of burning?
Tu Nan put down the newspaper in her hand, trying to look for another one, when suddenly footsteps sounded outside the door.
She abruptly looked up toward the door.
Her body reacted faster than her mind; she quickly ran to the Candle and blew it out, plunging the room into darkness.
In the darkness, the footsteps outside the door grew clearer and clearer.
Tu Nan held her breath, racking her brain for a way to escape.
The footsteps drew closer and closer.
With a creak, the door was pushed open, and Rose Madam walked in with a stern face. She entered the room, her sharp gaze sweeping around. There was nowhere to hide in this room; it was almost completely exposed.
The Lock on the door was not engaged, but she had clearly locked it when she left, so someone must have entered the room.
But now, she could not find anyone inside.
The darkness in the room seemed to have no effect on her. She strode to the desk, and upon seeing the obviously disturbed desk, her expression grew even worse.
As if suddenly recalling something, she turned to the bedside.
The quilt on the bed was sunken near the headboard, while the rest was smooth.
She curled her lips into a cold smile.

[Favorability with Rose Madam: -50 (She utterly despises you)]
?
Tu Nan, who had just crawled out from behind the Mural, had a huge question mark in her mind.
Can Favorability even go negative?
It seemed Rose Madam had already discovered that she had entered her room.
Just now, in the room, at the critical moment, she suddenly thought of the Painting at the head of Rose Madam’s bed.
Rose Madam would never put a Painting at her own bedside to monitor herself, so there were only two possibilities-
One: The Painting was meaningless, just a decoration.
Two: The Painting was a passage she used to monitor others.
Rose had once told them that there was a hidden space behind a Mural on the first floor, so perhaps this Painting had the same function as the one downstairs.
The situation was urgent, so she had to take a gamble. Fortunately, luck was on her side.
Behind the Painting, there really was a secret room.
And in that secret room, she found exactly what she was looking for-
