chapter 51
She just didn’t know what his goal was.
Perhaps she needed to find an opportunity to talk with Qin.
After dinner, Fu Zhixing found a chance to take out the two Doppelganger Puppets he had prepared in advance. While no one was paying attention, he discreetly replaced them without anyone noticing.
Although it wasn’t the first time seeing a Doppelganger Puppet, Tu Nan still found it amazing to see a puppet that looked exactly like herself.
Jenny was talking to her own Doppelganger Puppet when she suddenly paused, showing a somewhat strange expression, then quickly returned to normal.
Jenny had noticed.
Compared to a real person, these puppets moved with a formulaic stiffness. Anyone observant enough could easily spot the difference.
Fortunately, aside from Jenny, it seemed no one else was interested in talking to her.
The feeling was quite subtle.
“If only I had a Doppelganger like this for work,” she couldn’t help but sigh.
“This one’s too low-level, it can’t handle delicate tasks,” Fu Zhixing replied mercilessly.
The two joked to lighten the mood before returning to serious matters.
In the distance, the others had already stood up, apparently planning to return to their rooms.
Tu Nan suddenly recalled Qin’s expression at dinner, and leaned close to Fu Zhixing’s ear, whispering, “I saw Qin’s face when she looked at Alan just now-it was very odd. Looks like she’s already noticed something’s wrong.”
“Anyone who’s survived this long isn’t a fool. The question is what she’s really thinking,” Fu Zhixing said, unsurprised.
It was neither too early nor too late. The servants would at least wait until everyone was asleep before coming out to move Bob’s body. They needed to find a place to hide first.
There were Murals everywhere in the Mansion, so hiding inside was impossible. They could only hide outside and sneak back in after the candles went out.
Tu Nan couldn’t help but recall the two crying Lambs from the morning. The scene was so Weird that it lingered in her mind all day.
An entire afternoon had passed; perhaps the deadly mist had already dissipated.
“I have an idea,” she said to Fu Zhixing. “I want to check out the Sheep Pen from this morning.”
Fu Zhixing curled his lips, “I was thinking the same thing.”
*
The Roses in the Manor looked even more enchanting under the moonlight, their faint fragrance drifting all around.
They arrived at the Pasture, and sure enough, the thick mist had vanished.
Tu Nan and Fu Zhixing exchanged a glance, then carefully walked to the entrance. After making sure no one was around, they quietly slipped inside.
A strong stench of blood hit them immediately.
These animals were kept outdoors, and with the bright moonlight tonight, they could see everything inside the Fence clearly.
The food from dinner churned in Tu Nan’s stomach; her face paled as she covered her mouth and turned away.
Even Fu Zhixing’s brows were tightly furrowed, his expression grim.
The lively animals from earlier in the day now lay scattered all over the ground, motionless, their bodies stiff, blood staining their mouths and noses. Clearly, they had been dead for quite some time.
Tu Nan stepped forward to examine them closely, her face growing heavier with each moment.
It was truly strange-some of the animal corpses looked fresh, while others seemed to have been dead for a long time.
The bodies were piled up, far more than what they had seen during the day.
The only ones still alive were…
That seemingly harmless flock of sheep.
But now, under the moonlight, they had lost all the docility they showed during the day. The sheep lowered their heads, gnawing at the corpses of the other animals on the ground.
Blood stained the white fur around their mouths red, making them look exceptionally Weird.
Sheep were supposed to eat grass, but these were clearly no ordinary sheep.
Fu Zhixing suddenly nudged Tu Nan with his elbow and discreetly pointed toward the corner.
Tu Nan followed the direction of his finger. In the corner, there were two smaller Lambs, watching the feeding sheep with longing in their black eyes.
“Don’t you think those two sheep seem a bit too human?” Tu Nan asked instinctively.
It was as if they weren’t sheep, but two people trapped inside the bodies of Lambs.
The thought startled her, making her throat tighten.
“Let’s go take a look,” Fu Zhixing said in a low voice. “Move quietly, don’t disturb the feeding sheep.”
Tu Nan nodded. They kept their eyes on the flock as they approached the Lambs in the corner.
The two Lambs noticed them, their black eyes fixed on them, even showing a look of anticipation.
One of the Lambs lying on the ground couldn’t help but stand up and take two steps toward them.
They immediately stopped, alert.
Perhaps realizing it had startled them, the Lamb sat back down.
As if…
Trying to reassure them.
Suppressing the increasingly Weird feeling in her heart, Tu Nan decided to go over anyway.
Under the moonlight, two Lambs and two people stared at each other-the Lambs’ eyes full of hope, the humans’ eyes full of caution. No matter how you looked at it, it was an extremely Weird scene.
When they were about three steps away, they stopped, not daring to get closer.
One of the Lambs, seeing they weren’t moving, scratched the ground anxiously with its front hoof.
It didn’t seem to want to harm them.
Fu Zhixing watched it, his brow furrowing slightly.
It seemed to be…
“Is it… writing with its hoof?” Tu Nan murmured.
This realization sent a chill down both their spines.
The Lamb grew excited, scratching harder at the ground with its hoof.
Tu Nan tried hard to decipher the message it was trying to convey.
“I … am … b … o … b …”
I am Bob.
Tu Nan’s eyes widened instantly.
She stared at the Lamb in terror, her heart pounding wildly.
“Then the other one… is Alan?”
The Lamb nodded repeatedly.
The Weirdness of this scene far exceeded anything she could have imagined.
For a moment, both of them stared at the Lambs, speechless.
Fear crept up from their feet, spreading through their bodies.
Suddenly, one of the feeding sheep looked up and stared at them.
Bob’s expression grew anxious as he glanced at the flock.
Tu Nan turned around and met a pair of Weird red eyes. Only then did she realize that at night, the sheep’s eyes were red.
Those round eyes glowed with an eerie red light, and the blood around their mouths pushed the horror of the scene to its peak.
The sheep stared at them, unmoving.
Tu Nan’s hair stood on end.
Then, the rest of the sheep, who had been eating, began to lift their heads one by one.
Blood-red eyes, unblinking, locked onto them.
A bloodthirsty desire emanated from their gaze.
