chapter 44
George was pushing a Wheelchair, and sitting in it was a little girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, her skin fair, her eyes large and bright, looking very cute.
She was holding a white Cat in her arms, which lay lazily in her embrace, arrogantly licking its own paw.
It was the girl and Cat from the Mural on the wall.
Jenny and Tu Nan exchanged a glance.
“My dear Princess Lilith, it hurts me so much to hear you say that,” Simon walked up to Lilith, bent down and picked her up, spinning her around in the air, “Who else in the whole Manor would secretly make Toffee for you?”
Lilith let out a clear, pleasant laugh.
She looked like just a seven or eight-year-old girl, lively, adorable, clever, and fond of smiling.
“This must be Madam’s Young Daughter?” Jenny asked.
Simon carefully placed Lilith back in the Wheelchair. Lilith blinked curiously at them, “Are you the playmates Mother found for me?”
“Yes, Miss Lilith,” George replied, bowing his head, “Madam will choose one of them to be your playmate.”
Lilith didn’t seem to care about this; all she thought about was the Toffee Simon made for her, clamoring to eat it.
“You can’t eat candy so early in the morning,” Simon said, but still handed her a piece of Toffee.
“Mother won’t know,” Lilith said with a bright smile.
They talked for a long time in the Dining Room, but Bob and Alan still hadn’t come downstairs.
Tu Nan divided the breakfast Simon made for her into small portions for the others. After breakfast, they all agreed to go upstairs and check.
“Didn’t you call them to come down with you this morning?” Fu Zhixing walked up to Qin and asked.
Qin nodded, “Of course I did. I heard movement inside, and someone answered me. I thought they hadn’t finished washing up, so I went down first.”
“But who would have thought, they never came down.”
At this point, everyone present knew in their hearts that Bob and Alan were probably doomed.
The corridor on the Third Floor was silent.
Bob and Alan’s room was at the end of the corridor. Qin hurried forward, raising her hand to knock, but as soon as she touched the door, it silently opened a crack.
She sensed a feeling of unease and, for a moment, didn’t dare to push the door open.
The others quickly approached. Tu Nan vaguely smelled a faint scent of blood.
She glanced at Fu Zhixing and pointed at the door.
On that door, just like on her own room, was a Bloody Handprint.
Since yesterday, Tu Nan had noticed that Qin was a decisive person. She hesitated only briefly, her eyes flashed with determination, and she forcefully pushed the door open.
Candles were lit in the room, illuminating everything inside.
“Ah-” Rose stared in terror, instinctively letting out a cry, then immediately realized her reaction was out of place, turned and hugged Jack beside her, burying her head in his chest.
Qin clenched her fists tightly, her jaw set, her eyes unconsciously growing hot.
Bob and Alan, who had been lively and energetic just last night, were now lying on the floor of the room, blood pooling beneath them, their fate unknown.
“I’m going to kill them!” Qin said through gritted teeth.
“Let’s go in and check, maybe there’s still hope,” Fu Zhixing said in a low voice.
His face looked grim.
-For anyone, losing two teammates at the very start of an Instance would be hard to bear.
The bloodstains beneath the two had already turned a dark red. The room was extremely dim, and because the windows were tightly shut, the air grew increasingly stagnant, making the smell of blood even stronger the moment one stepped inside.
It was deeply unsettling.
Due to her profession, Tu Nan actually had a strong tolerance for bloody scenes, but when she entered the room and saw what was on the floor, she still couldn’t help but feel a wave of nausea.
Bob lay on his back on the ground, the blood beneath him had already congealed into a dark red scab, indicating he’d been dead for quite some time. Whatever he’d seen before dying, his face was twisted in terror, his eyes wide open.
The most chilling thing was the huge bloody hole in his chest. The wound was jagged and horrifying, as if someone had forcibly torn it open, leaving his chest completely empty.
Fu Zhixing squatted down to briefly examine the marks on Bob’s body, his expression grave. “His heart has been removed.”
Qin’s eyes widened in shock, her voice squeezed out through clenched teeth. “Who… Who could have done this…”
Jenny sighed beside Tu Nan, while Rose cowered in Jack’s arms, terrified.
Death, for them, was almost a commonplace occurrence.
“Alan seems to still be alive,” Fu Zhixing suddenly said.
“Alan is alive?!” Hope surged in Qin’s eyes. “Really?”
Fu Zhixing placed his hand on Alan’s neck, concentrated for a moment, then nodded. “He’s still breathing.”
“We need to get out of here first,” Tu Nan glanced at the blood-soaked floor. “It’s too dangerous here.”
Jack and Fu Zhixing carried Alan into the next room-Qin’s room. Fu Zhixing pulled open Alan’s shirt, revealing another horrifying wound on his chest.
The flesh was turned outward, pale from blood loss. He was barely hanging on, breathing out more than in.
Without hesitation, Qin took out a Healing Item.
Fu Zhixing looked at her with some surprise. Healing Items were incredibly precious within the Instance, but their effects were undeniable-Alan quickly opened his eyes.
“Help… Don’t-don’t kill me…” He flailed his hands in the air, panic-stricken.
“Alan, you’re safe now.” Qin rushed forward and gripped his hand, soothing him. “Don’t worry, there’s no Weird here.”
Alan’s unfocused gaze slowly sharpened as he recognized the people before him, finally calming down bit by bit.
“Mr. Alan, please tell us-what exactly happened here?” Fu Zhixing looked at him, expressionless.
“You’re being too insensitive,” Qin snapped, turning to glare at him. “Alan just escaped danger, his mental state is terrible!”
“Calm down,” Tu Nan stepped forward to separate them. “No one wanted this to happen, but now that it has, we just want to understand the situation as quickly as possible.”
“Can’t you let him rest for a moment?” Qin refused to back down.
“This is an Instance,” Tu Nan said calmly. “Until we get out, can anyone truly rest?”
“But…” Qin wanted to say more.
“It’s fine,” Alan stopped her. “It’s okay, Qin. It’s normal for them to have questions.” He looked at Fu Zhixing. “What do you want to know?”
Fu Zhixing’s voice was cold, almost devoid of empathy. “What I want to know is: why is Bob, who shared a room with you, dead-while you’re still alive?”
