York opened the door once again, his heart full of anticipation.

He was disappointed yet again.

“Why is it you?” He looked at the person before him in surprise; it had been a year since they last met.

He Ling stood in front of him, flanked by two burly security guards.

“It’s been a long time, Mr. York.” She stood her ground, watching him with a tone of voice that betrayed an irrepressible excitement.

At the thought that she was about to avenge Weichun, she was so excited she wanted to skin York alive right then and there.

Unfortunately, Miss Charles had specifically instructed her: his life must be spared.

Beyond that, however, she could do as she pleased.

While it was a bit of a pity, perhaps a direct death was too good for someone like York.

“What are you doing here?” York sensed the Weird atmosphere. He took a step back and said warily, “Snow White is coming to take me away from the hospital any minute now.”

“Are you waiting for her?” A Weird smile curled at the corners of He Ling’s mouth, contrasting with her cold, joyless eyes in a way that felt sinister.

“What a shame,” she spat out. “She’s already left.”

York’s pupils constricted suddenly. His voice was tight; he had a faint suspicion of what was happening, but he didn’t want to believe it.

“What do you mean by that?”

“Do you really think that someone of Maria’s status would ever be interested in a man as ordinary yet overconfident as you?” Tu Nan rose from Eric’s bedside and walked over to him. “You’re being utterly ridiculous.”

“That’s impossible…” A flash of panic crossed York’s eyes, and he reflexively retorted, “No one has ever been able to reject my advances!”

“You do indeed possess a decent enough face,” Tu Nan nodded in affirmation. “But you aren’t so charming that everyone will fall in love with you.”

“What do you know!” York glared at her fiercely. “As long as I beckon to them, flash them a smile, and say a few sweet words, they’ll give up everything for me without a second thought.”

“That’s because they are kind and treat their emotions with sincerity,” Tu Nan said sharply. “That is not an excuse for you to toy with their feelings.”

York grew increasingly incensed. “They did it willingly! I was saving them!”

Tu Nan suddenly realized that there was no point in talking to someone who was already rotten to the core.

“Emily has already told her mother what you did, and I have reported your misdeeds. How do you think the hospital will choose to act when faced with the wrath of a Duchess?”

York’s face turned ashen in an instant.

“Maria… How could Maria just leave me like this?” He shook his head in disbelief. “I have to go find her.”

As he spoke, he tried to shove his way out, only to be blocked by the two hulking security guards at the door.

“How pathetic.” He Ling stared at him venomously. “Back then, you used such low-handed schemes and drugs to drive a wedge between me and Weichun. What’s the matter? Have you fallen for your own tricks now?”

York froze, instinctively asking, “How did you know…”

He snapped his mouth shut abruptly, his hand unconsciously clutching the pocket of his clothes.

Tu Nan noticed his movement and narrowed her eyes, keeping a close watch on him.

“What nonsense are you talking about?” York lifted his chin, the expression on his face somewhat unnatural. “I have no idea what you’re saying.”

He let out a sneer. “You’re the one who caused Yi Weichun’s death. What, are you trying to pin it on me just so you can live with your conscience?”
He Ling’s eyes reddened with fury.

“It doesn’t matter if you won’t talk,” she said, enunciating every word. “Once you’re in the Solitary Confinement Room, I’ll have plenty of ways to make you spit it all out.”

York’s face turned deathly pale in an instant. His eyes widened as he shouted angrily, “You can’t do this to me! I want to see the Head Nurse!”

“The Head Nurse doesn’t want to see you.”

He Ling produced a Rag from nowhere and gestured for the security guards beside her to restrain York. She then reached out and pinched York’s jaw, easily dislocating it before stuffing the Rag inside.

It was clear that dislocating his jaw just to stuff a Rag in was a pure act of venting her rage.

“Take him to the Solitary Confinement Room,” He Ling told the two guards.

“Mmph… Mmph!”

York was dragged away by the guards. He struggled with all his might, but it was clearly futile.

He Ling watched coldly as he was hauled off, her eyes shining with an ill-concealed sense of satisfaction.

“I’ll go with you.” Tu Nan glanced at He Ling and decided to accompany her after all.

Emily had explicitly stated she wanted York alive. In case He Ling let her hatred cloud her judgment, Tu Nan could be there to offer a reminder. Moreover, she had a few questions of her own for York.

He Ling felt immensely grateful toward Tu Nan. Without her, she wouldn’t have had the chance to take her revenge personally.

She nodded, then hesitated for a moment before saying, “In a bit, things might get a little…”

Tu Nan knew what she was trying to say and smiled. “It’s fine. I’ve seen all sorts of scenes inside an Instance.”

The Solitary Confinement Room was located in the hospital basement. It was exceptionally deep and quiet, with almost no light except for the Oil Lamp they carried.

As Tu Nan walked, she observed her surroundings, clicking her tongue inwardly.

No wonder York had been so terrified at the mere mention of the Solitary Confinement Room; this place was practically a museum of medieval torture.

The Oil Lamp cast a faint, eerie glow. Tu Nan studied the torture devices. They looked quite old, as if they had been used for years. The cold metallic feel and the thick scent of blood were enough to make anyone’s skin crawl.

“Not every patient sent to confinement will have these used on them,” He Ling explained in a low voice, noticing her looking around. “Most of these things are just for intimidation.”

“Patients in confinement are brought here to spend the night alone. Some of the more faint-hearted ones can be driven literally insane by the fear.”

Just standing there evoked a suffocating sense of dread, and that was with a light source. Without one, and being all alone, it was indeed possible to go mad from terror.

That was why everyone in the Fairy Tale Hospital was deathly afraid of the Solitary Confinement Room.

York had already been taken to the depths and tied to a wooden bed. With the Rag still stuffed in his mouth, he made muffled “mmph” sounds, his eyes filled with terror as he looked at them.

“Miss Charles is very kind-hearted.” He Ling walked to the bedside and looked down at him. “She specifically instructed me to make sure you stay alive.”

York subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that Emily was deeply in love with him and was perhaps only trying to scare him.

Unfortunately, He Ling’s next words shattered his delusions.

“She said, ‘I only need him to have one breath left in him. I heard you have a grudge against him, so you can torture him however you like. I don’t mind.'”

He Ling praised, “How thoughtful she is, how kind.”

In York’s eyes, the current He Ling looked as terrifying as a vengeful ghost.
