Chapter 109
Chapter 109
York returned to the ward, feeling a rare surge of excitement. It took him quite a while to calm down.
Maria had told him to pack his things, but in reality, he had nothing to pack except for a drawer full of worthless rings-he certainly wasn’t going to trouble himself by bringing those along.
He paced around the ward several times, and even the Dwarfs, whom he usually found eyesores, seemed a bit more tolerable today.
So what if Eric on the other side was a Prince? He was currently paralyzed in bed, unable to speak, and didn’t hold a candle to him.
York wasn’t born into nobility, but he had a natural talent for seizing opportunities. Even after being sent to this hospital, he could still rely on himself to walk out.
He couldn’t help but begin to envision his future.
*
A moment later, there was a knock at the door.
York opened it with a smile.
Maria had changed into a different dress. There wasn’t a single wrinkle on her person, and her demeanor was elegant and composed.
Tu Nan was following behind her.
“My dear, is it time to leave?” York asked impatiently.
“Oh… I’m afraid we have to wait a little longer.” A flash of imperceptible impatience flickered in Maria’s eyes as she smiled and said, “I’ve come because I need a favor.”
“I’m at your service.” York tilted his head. “But what can I possibly do for you?”
Maria glanced at Tu Nan. “It’s like this. I’m leaving soon, and I’ve been quite satisfied with Nurse Tu Nan’s work ethic during this time, so I plan to give her a positive review. Since she is also the nurse in charge of you, why don’t you give her one as well?”
Tu Nan wore a flawless smile, looking at York expectantly.
“…This,” he hesitated for a moment.
To be honest, he didn’t particularly like Tu Nan. There was something in this woman’s eyes that he found exceptionally repulsive.
“Is there a problem?” Maria blinked.
Forget it, it was a trivial matter anyway.
“Of course not.” York smiled. “I wouldn’t refuse such a small request.”
Tu Nan, standing behind Maria, immediately pulled out a patient evaluation form and said enthusiastically, “Then please stamp it right now.”
The smile on the corner of York’s mouth stiffened for a second. Under Maria’s gaze, he had no choice but to turn back and get his seal.
Tu Nan watched with her own eyes as York pressed the seal onto the paper, finally smiling with satisfaction.
“Thank you so much, Mr. York.” She took back the evaluation form. “May God bless you.”
“In that case, I’ll see you tonight.” Maria gave York a slight smile, withdrew her gaze, and turned to leave without looking back.
“Oh, right,” Tu Nan said, as if suddenly remembering something. She poked her head in and said to the Peters in the room, “Mr. Peter, it’s your Recess Time now. Would you like to go out for a walk?”
He won’t agree, York thought subconsciously.
From the day Peter arrived, York had never seen him step foot out of the room.
“Alright.”
To his surprise, Peter actually agreed very quickly.
He watched the Peters walk out of the room without even giving him a single glance.
“Mr. York, I must accompany Mr. Peter for a walk in the Garden. Please excuse me.”
Tu Nan nodded to him, then turned and followed behind Peter, leaving with a light step.
York felt it was a bit strange. He watched their figures disappear from his sight, shook his head, and returned to the ward.
Whatever, they were just a few ugly gnomes.
*
Tu Nan escorted Maria to the hospital entrance.
The King and Queen did not come in person; they only sent Soldiers to pick up Maria.
“This is far enough.” Maria stopped. “From here on, you’re on your own.”
Tu Nan nodded. “Be careful after you go back as well.”
“Before the Wedding, they won’t do anything to me. In fact, they’ll protect me well and give me whatever I want.” Maria gave a slightly mocking smile. “Compared to myself, I’m more worried about you.”
“You’ve already helped me get three positive review stamps. What is there to worry about?” Tu Nan winked at her and whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear, “Just rest easy and wait for me to help you ascend to the Throne.”
“Watch your tongue,” Maria frowned, reprimanding her in a low voice.
However, her serious expression didn’t last long, and she soon broke into a smile. “I look forward to that day.”
Maria took out an invitation and handed it to her.
“This invitation will allow you to find me.”
Tu Nan took it, receiving a notification from the System at the same time.
She nodded and tucked the invitation away.
Nearby, the Soldiers were lifting the Dwarfs into the Carriage one by one. Maria watched the scene, the corners of her mouth curling upward.
Tu Nan looked up at the sky, which was dyed yellow by the setting sun.
The sun was about to go down.
“York-what do you plan to do about him?” Maria said with considerable disgust. “Such a revolting man is truly a rare find.”
“He’s probably still expecting to leave with you,” Tu Nan tilted her head. “Miss Charles has already told the Duchess that her legs were injured because of York’s instigation. I’ve also reported his behavior. Neither the hospital nor the Duke’s side will make things easy for him.”
“I heard this kind of behavior gets you sent to the Solitary Confinement Room?” Tu Nan was actually quite curious about what the room looked like. “Anyway, tonight, he’ll reap what he sowed.”
“It’s a pity I won’t be around to see it.”
Maria thought back to the performance at the pavilion and frowned in disgust again.
“Your Highness, the luggage has been packed. We can depart now,” a Soldier stepped forward and reported in a low voice.
Maria gave a haughty nod and looked at Tu Nan. “I’m leaving. I look forward to seeing you again.”
Tu Nan smiled and nodded. “Of course. We’ll see each other again soon.”
The Carriage carrying Snow White and the Dwarfs clattered away.
Tu Nan withdrew her gaze and decided to head to the cafeteria for dinner first before telling He Ling the good news.
*
York waited from dawn until dusk, but the people coming to pick him up still hadn’t arrived, and Peter hadn’t returned either.
He was starting to get restless.
*Knock, knock, knock.*
Just as York was planning to check the neighboring ward, the door finally creaked under a knock.
Presumably, the people coming for him were finally here.
York let out a sigh of relief and opened the door with a broad smile.
“Good evening.” Tu Nan waved at him.
“Why is it you?” York couldn’t help but peer behind her.
“Mr. Eric hasn’t had dinner yet.” Tu Nan held up the lunch box in her hand. “I’m here to feed him.”
York irritably stepped aside. As Tu Nan brushed past him, she couldn’t help but lower her head and let out a mocking laugh.
She walked gracefully to Eric’s side at the far end of the ward, sat down, and began to feed him, even humming a little tune.
York sat on the edge of his bed. Listening to the humming in his ear, he couldn’t help but snap at her.
“Shut up!”
“Sorry, did I disturb you?” Tu Nan nodded apologetically. “But seeing how anxious you are, you must be waiting for Maria.”
York shot her a look.
“Don’t worry, she’ll be here soon.”
Only, this “she” probably wasn’t the Maria York was expecting.
Another knock sounded at the door.
“See?” Tu Nan smiled. “I told you ‘she’ would be here soon.”
