Chapter 56
The gathered Fish Swarm parted.
They ate quickly and ferociously.
Where the Thin Man had been standing, now lay a pile of human bones.
Some Fish Bone, unwilling to give up, came over, stuck out their tongues to lick, trying to scrape away the last bits of flesh.
The human bones exposed to the air were too dry and began to crack.
The shattered pieces fell to the ground, turning into sand.
Just like the only withered grass growing in the Prison, they sandified.
“Crack, crack, crack-”
The Fish Swarm turned.
Fins flapping, now their sharp teeth opened and closed urgently, facing the Players shrouded in despair.
“Did they… finish eating?”
“They’re coming!!”
They watched helplessly as the Fish Swarm devoured a living person in mere seconds.
Feng Shan looked at the Players huddled together in fear, annoyed, “Still sticking together?! Split up now! If all the Fish Swarm gather, they’ll eat us clean in no time!”
To earn his Master’s approval, he worked diligently as the Leader, the captain, and the core of every team in each Instance.
But every time he entered an Instance, he always encountered a bunch of brainless idiots.
He was the first to distance himself from the crowd, spotting the area with the fewest Fish Swarm wall paintings not far away. Leaning on the edge, Mirella was already acting alone. Feng Shan gave her an approving look.
This was the teammate he wanted.
Just now, Mirella was willing to talk to him, which must mean she subconsciously wanted to team up with him.
Feng Shan also noticed Lu Li and Luo Jia Bai, standing apart from the crowd.
They had coincidentally separated from the gathered Players.
Feng Shan muttered resentfully, “Luck alone isn’t enough. I want to see what you two can come up with.”
Suddenly shouted at by Feng Shan, several Players snapped out of their daze.
So when the Fish Swarm charged in densely, they screamed and scattered in all directions.
The Fish Swarm split into several groups in a pattern, each group of Bone Fish targeting a Player, chasing them through the waterless air in a horrifying pursuit.
Some Players exchanged Items to help themselves run faster.
But the Fish Swarm behind them swam even faster.
Soon, one or two tongues licked a Player’s Arm.
The skin was peeled back, and the blood that flowed excited the Fish Swarm to the point of trembling. More tongues stretched from the wound into the Player’s body.
The Player endured the pain, grabbed the Bone Fish’s tongue, pulled it out of his body, exchanged for the best hemostatic medicine in the Shop to heal the wound, and quickly left the spot where blood had dripped.
The Fish Swarm that had just locked onto the Player instantly lost direction.
They dove into the ground, surging into the pool of blood on the floor.
Each Player was struggling to cope, exhausted just dealing with their own branch of the Fish Swarm. They looked to Feng Shan for help.
“How do we shake them off? Why can they swim in the air too?!”
“Are they piranhas? It’s so dry here, if we use fire, they’ll burn quickly! Let’s burn them!”
“Asking you is pointless, let’s ask Feng Shan! Feng Shan! Do you have any good ideas?”
Feng Shan came up with a good idea, “They want water, so let’s give it to them.”
–
Two Fish Swarm swam toward Lu Li.
Entering the area illuminated by Moonlight, their swimming speed noticeably slowed.
They even moved frame by frame, as if in stop-motion.
But no matter how slow, it didn’t change the fact that they wanted to eat people.
“Aren’t we going to run?” Luo Jia Bai was nervous. He trusted Lu Li, but the terrifying Bone Fish in front of him made his legs weak.
Lu Li stared at the Fish Swarm, thinking, “If the air here is equivalent to seawater, then the faster you move, the more intense the water ripples you create, which the Fish Swarm can sense.”
Luo Jia Bai’s palms were cold, “So we should… not move?”
“You’ll be seen even if you don’t move.” Lu Li suddenly took a step forward. “You need to stay in the Lead Fish’s visual blind spot.”
They weren’t provoked by fresh blood.
Relying only on the scent of blood, the Fish Swarm remained perfectly orderly, each fish following behind the Lead Fish.
Lu Li had just observed a few Fish Swarms chasing Players and noticed that each Fish Swarm only locked onto a single Player.
Even if they saw other players along the way, they wouldn’t break formation or switch targets.
In other words, he and Luo Jia Bai each only needed to deal with their own corresponding Fish Swarm.
“The Fish Swarm on the left is coming for you. Focus on the very first Bone Fish,” Lu Li said calmly. The Fish Swarm was close at hand, but he still had time to help the nearly fainting Luo Jia Bai think. “Do you know where the fish’s blind spot is?”
“Where is the blind spot…?” Luo Jia Bai’s mind was working overtime as he watched the Lead Fish swim toward him from the side.
One eye rolled and locked onto him.
Luo Jia Bai’s eyes lit up. “The eyes are on the sides, so the blind spot is directly in front.”
He took a step to the left and stood right in front of it.
The Lead Fish’s head began swaying randomly, searching back and forth with its left and right eyes.
?
Where’s the water?
Wasn’t there a huge puddle of water here just now?
Lu Li’s Fish Swarm also lost its direction.
The live chat erupted.
[Tip: Spirit Money*5000] Ah?? My eyes nearly popped out! What are these moves? I’ve never seen anything like this! You brat!
[Everyone else is running for their lives, and he’s just dodging?]
[Oh my beans. You know what, the Streamer really has some skills.]
[Is he kiting ghosts again? The other players are still panicking, but the Streamer’s already showing off.]
“Can this completely solve the Fish Swarm?”
Luo Jia Bai kept adjusting his position based on the Lead Fish, but after a while he began to run out of stamina.
Lu Li watched the Fish Swarm’s blank, frantic searching. “If they find real water, they should stop.”
After going through one Instance, he forced himself to calm down and reconsider. “Does the Fish Swarm want water? But just the drinking water from the Shop isn’t enough. Do they want tap water… river water, lake water, sea water?”
“The Instance name has Sea Demon in it, so it might be sea water,” Luo Jia Bai said, growing weaker and weaker. “But there’s no sea water available for exchange in the Shop.”
So isn’t this a dead end?
Still struggling, he exchanged for the largest barrel of Barreled Water first. “You always have to try to break the deadlock. Should I go first?”
As soon as Luo Jia Bai took out the water, the Fish Swarm suddenly grew restless.
“Don’t move.”
Lu Li reached out to stop him. “Quick, put that barrel of water away.”
–
The Players following Feng Shan’s instructions exchanged a huge amount of Barreled Water.
Feng Shan said, “They attacked Players just now because the Fish Swarm was too large. As long as you provide enough water, you can clear the Instance.”
He insisted, “To clear it, just pile up Points and Items!”
Players twisted open the water and splashed barrel after barrel at the Fish Swarm hovering in the air.
A huge amount of water was wasted.
It passed through the Fish Swarm and splashed onto the ground.
The ground evaporated the water instantly, sending up plumes of white steam.
Players cried out in horror, “It’s useless! They don’t want the water at all!”
“Feng Shan, are you sure about this? Can you stop giving random orders!”
“If you can’t do it, hurry up and contact your Master for help!!”
“Wait, why isn’t the Fish Swarm attacking those three?”
